1 Claim.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in card game accessories and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character comprising means for holding a score pad for convenient use.

Another very important object of the invention is to provide an accessory of the character described comprising a container for the reception of a deck of cards, said container including novel means for facilitating the removal of said 'cards. v

Still another important object of the invention is to provide a card game accessory of the aforementioned character comprising means for holding a removable ash trayin position for convenient use.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a card game accessory of the character set forth which will be comparatively. simple in construction, strong, durable; compact, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become ,apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the tion through the device, taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Figure 3 is a cross sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.

Figure 4 is a view in side elevation of the device, a portion thereof being broken away in section, the cover for the card receptacle being shown in raised position.

Figure 5 is a'detail view in cross section, taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.

Figure 6 is a bottom plan view of the ash tray. Figure I is a view in side elevation of a slightly modified form of the invention.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral I designates a substantially rectangular base which may be of any suitable material. A covering sheet 2 is adhesively secured to the bottom of the base I. Mounted on one end portion of the base i is a receptacle 3 for the reception of a deck of cards. The receptacle 3- includes a hinged cover 4.

Mounted in the receptacle 3 is a follower 5 .in the form of a plate of suitable material which is adapted tosupport a deck of cards. One end of the follower 5-is suspended in elevated position from the cover through the medium of hangers- 6. The other end of the follower 5 rests on the base I and terminates in an upwardly extending, curved retaining'fiange I. This is illustrated to advantage in Fig. 2 of 'the drawings.

Mounted on the cover 4 of the receptacle 3 is a substantially rectangular metallic plate 8. Rigidly secured on the plate 8 is a substantially U- shaped upper plate 9 having raised inner marginal portions l8 (see Fig. 3). The reference numeral ll designates a removable ash tray which is adapted to be mounted on the cover 4. Toward this end, the tray H has secured to its bottom a metallic plateiZ including downwardly offset end portions i3 which are slidably insertable in the grooves or channels provided therefor by the raised marginal portions ill of the plate 9. The tray H is provided with one or more cigarette holders M.

Mounted on the portion of the base I which is free of the receptacle 3 is a pad l5. The pad 85 is secured in position by means including a barIS which is clamped transversely across the end portion of said pad which is adjacent the receptacle 3. The bar [6, in turn, is secured in position by bolts I! which extend through the' pad l5 and are threaded .into female members It which are provided therefor in the base i. This is shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. A tube I9 is mounted horizontally on the inclined front wall 20 of the receptacle 3 for holding a pencil, as at 2|.

It is thought that the manner in which the device is used will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. The-cards, when in the receptacle 3, rest on the follower 5. When the coverfi is swung upwardly to open position, as seen in Fig. 4 of the drawings, one end of the follower 5 is lifted thereby thus elevating the deck of cards in a manner to facilitate the removal thereof. The mounting of the ash tray I l is such that it may be expeditiously removed for pad l5 may be expeditiously renewed when desired by simply removing the bolts l1.

In the modification shown in Flg. oi the drawings, the reference numeral 23 designates a drawer for the reception of a deck of cards which is slidable laterally'in the receptacle 8. A' resilient sheet metal clamp 24 is mounted on the base I for securing the score pad I! in position. The clamp 24 is provided with a lip 25 which engagesthe pad l5 and which facilitates tearing the sheets therefrom. A knob 26' is provided 'for opening theolamp 24 to facilitate the insertion or removal of the score pad. In other respects the modification illustrated in Fig. '7 is substantially similar in construction and operation to the form of the invention'shown in Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive.

It is believed-that the many advantages of a card. game accessory constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although preferred embodiments of.

the device areas illustrated and described, it is to be understood that further modiflcations'may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention 'as claimed. 7

What is claimed is: A card game accessory comprising a receptacle for the. reception .of a deck of cards, said receptacle including a hinged cover, a follower in the re- 3 ceptacle for elevatlngthe cards when the cover is opened, said follower including a flat platelike member having one end curving upwardly and toward the other end and a hanger connecting said other end to the cover for causing said 1 other endto be lifted when the cover is swung upwardly with the curved and rocking on the bottom of the receptacle.
