United States Patent HOLDERS FOR BOTTLES AND OTHER CONTAINERS Andrew R. Kosher, Wilkes-Barre, Application July 19, 1954, Serial No. 444,169

Claims. (Cl. 120-73) My invention relates to improvements in holders for ink bottles and other liquid containers commonly used on desks, tables and benches.

The primary object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive, strong, lightweight holder for such containers especially constructed for easy secure attachment on a desk, table or bench top at the edge of the top to hold a container against being upset and so that, in the case of bottles, the liquid level therein can be readily seen.

Other and subordinate objects together with the precise nature of my improvements will become apparent when the following description and claims are read with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification.

' i Referring to the drawings by numerals, and first to Figures 1, 2 and 3 in the preferred embodiment thereof iny improved holder comprises an oblong substantially rectangular frame 1 of resilient strip material such as a resilient plastic. The frame 1 comprises horizontal vgertically spaced flat, top, and bottom walls 3, 5, respectively, connected at what constitutes the front end f of the frame by a vertical front wall 7. The top wall 3 is provided with a central opening 9 for receiving an ink bottle 11, or the like which may be of the flanged type as shown for suspension by its flange 13 from the top wall 3 or may be another type of container adapted to rest on the bottom wall 5.

The top wall 3 terminates at the rear end of the frame 1 in an attaching flange 15 forming the rear wall of the frame 1 and which depends from said top wall 3 below the bottom Wall 5, and is spaced from the rear end of said bottom wall 5. The attaching flange 15 is provided with a horizontal intermediate portion 17 and a lower end lip 19 apertured as at 21 to receive attaching screws 23. The horizontal portion 17 expands forwardly to underlie the rear end of the bottom wall so that said portion 17 and the rear end of the bottom wall are adapted to straddle an edge 25 of the top 27 of a desk 29 or the like.

In attaching the preferred embodiment of the holder it is slid forwardly on the desk top 27 on its bottom wall 5 and the top wall 3 is flexed downwardly on the front wall 7 until the portion 17 slides under the edge 25 of said top 27. Thus the bottom wall 5 and portion grip the front edge 25 therebetween. The screws 23 may then be inserted in the apertures 21 to fasten the holder in position. The frame 1 is completely open at its sides so that the level of liquid in a bottle in the frame may readily be observed when the level falls below the top wall 3.

In the modified embodiment illustrated in Figures 4 to 6 a frame 31 is provided similar to frame 1 with the following exceptions. The top wall 33 slants upwardly and rearwardly relative to the bottom Wall 35. The top wall 33 terminates at the rear end of said frame 31 in a depending right angled attaching flange 37 including a forwardly extending horizontal portion 39 adapted to hook under the edge 41 of the desk top 43. The bottom wall 35 terminates at its rear end in a downturned lip 45 adapted to engage the horizontal portion 39 when the frame 1 is detached to limit flexing of the top wall 33 away from the bottom wall 35. As will be seen in this embodiment the edge 41 of the desk top 43 is clamped between the bottom wall 35 and said portion 39 and an ink jar 47, or the like, positioned in the opening 49 in the top wall 33 may rest in the bottom wall 35. As shown in Figure 4 a pen 51 or the like may be inserted transversely in the frame 31 for support clear of the desk top 43.

As will be manifest the described holders may be inexpensively made from a single piece of strip material molded into shape and of different colors to match furniture or the like.

The foregoing will suflice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.

Manifestly my invention is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept and right is herein reserved to modifications falling within the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A holder for attachment on a desk top at one edge to support a container in upright position comprising an oblong rectangular frame of resilient strip material including vertically spaced flat top and bottom walls and a front wall connecting said top and bottom walls, said bottom wall being adapted to be imposed on said desk top, said top wall terminating in a vertical rear flange depending therefrom past and being separate from said bottom wall and adapted for positioning in front of said edge and provided with a horizontal portion, said vertical flange and horizontal portion being vertically movable relative to said bottom wall whereby said horizontal portion is adapted to underlie said .edge and coact with said bottom wall to clamp said frame to said edge, said top wall having a central opening therein for receiving the container therein.

2. A holder according to claim 1, said portion terminating in a vertical lip apertured for securing by screws to a side of the desk.

3. A holder according to claim 2, said lip forming the terminal of said flange.

4. A holder according to claim 1, said flange being of right angled form to provide said portion and extending longitudinally transversely of said bottom wall.

5. A holder according to claim 1, said bottom wall having a terminal flange coacting with said portion to limit flexing of said walls apart when the support is detached.
