A still further object of the invention is t provide a filter paper holder from which a used filter. together with its contents, may be quicklyy and easily removed for disposal without soiling the hands.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the specification proceeds and a more comprehensive understanding of the invention will be afforded from the following detailed specification when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a top view of a iilter paper holder embodying the instant invention,

Fig. 2 is a side view thereof showing the same with its parts positioned for storage, and

Fig. 3 is a. side view of the holder showing the same with parts thereof positioned to receive a lter paper.

Brieiiy stated, the invention contemplates a holder comprising two concentric rings, one of. which is mounted for pivotal movement into the other to clamp the marginal section of a flat filter paper between the rings, the outer ring being provided with a handle for convenient provide a Vessel engaging supporting extension I2 and a handle extension I3, the latter having a suitably shaped handle I4 fitted thereon. A'r second, or inner, ring I5 is mounted for move-v ment into the outer ring about a pivot taking the form of a pin I6 by means of which the ring I5 is connected to the handle extension I3 of the ring II.

The inner ring I5 supports a wire bow Il, the

ends I8 and I9 of which are bent and passed into holes in the ring so that the bow may be moved into its supporting ring as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 or to the position it occupies in Fig. 3. This ring also has fixed thereto a lug 2l which serves as a stop for preventing the inner ring from passing through the outer ring and also acts as a finger tab by means of which the inner ring is raised outwardly from the outer ring.

To condition the holder for use as a strainer the inner ring I5 is raised above the outer ring II and the bow I1 is pivoted out of its supporting ring all as is shown in Fig. 3. A flat :filter paper (not shown) is then placed on top of the outer ring I I and the ring I5 is pressed downwardly until the lug 2| rests on the ring II. The initial movement of the ring I5 carries the bow I1 into contact with the filter paper and presses it downwardly to form a filter cup, the marginal section of the paper being clamped between the two rings to hold the same in place in the holder.

After use, the inner ring is raised by means of the lug 2 I, providing for the disposal of the used filter paper in an obvious manner without touching it with the hands.

When not in use, the bow I1 is moved into the ring I5 and the latter into the ring II as viewed in Fig. 2. With its parts in this position, the holder, though providing a strainer of the Well known cup shape, can be stored in a compartment of reduced height, such as a drawer of a kitchen table.

Various changes may be made in the details of construction, within the scope of the appended claims, Without departing from the spirit of this invention. Parts of the invention may be used without the whole and improvements may be added while retaining some or all of the advantages of the invention.

What is claimed is:

l. A filter paper holder comprising a first ring member, a second ring member adapted for movement into the said first ring member to clamp a lter paper between said members, and a cupping bow member pivotally mounted at its ends in said second ring member adapted to form said filter paper into a lter cup as said second member is moved into said rst member.'

2. A filter paper holder comprising an outer ring member having as a part thereof a handle extension, an inner ring member mounted for movement into and out of said outer member about a pivot connecting the inner member to the louter member within said handle extension,

and a rigid cupping bow pivotally connected at its ends to said inner member for movement into, and normal to, the plane 0f said inner ring member.

A lter paper holder comprising rst and 5 second ring members, said second ring member being adapted for movement into the first to clamp a lter paper between said members, a rigid cupping bow pivotally connected at its ends to said second ring member for movement into, and normal to, the plane of said second ring member, and a lug connected to said second ring member providing a stop for limiting themovement of this member into the fdrst ring member, and means for withdrawing the second member from the rst member.
