. This invention relates to garments such as hunting coats, shirts or the like, and particularly to a sleeve structuretherefor having a closable longitudinal slit therein. 1

In certain activities, such as hunting, it is occasionally necessary or at least highly desirable to. remove all clothing from one or both arms. Such occasions are, for instance, the dressing out of a deer or the retrieving of game from water. The ordinary hunting coats, shirts or the like, do not permit the rolling up of the sleeves, as they are too bulw, and hence on such coca sions it is necessary to remove the garment re even though temperatures be near or below freezing. According to the present invention, the sleeves of garments such as'hunting coats, shirts or the like are slit and provided with separable fastening means for connecting the opposed edges of the slit so that the sleeves may be readily removed from the arm without removing the garment from the wearer.

Accordingly, an object of the invention is to provide a garment having sleeves having a slit back the sleeves to the garment when the opposed edges of the slits are disconnected.

A furtherobject of the invention is to provide a longitudinally slit sleeve, the opposed edges of which are connected by separable fastening means, with a closing fastener on the cuff thereof, which may lee-employed to coact with the closing fastener on the breast pocket of the garment to fasten back the sleeve to the garment when the opposed edges of the slit thereof are disconnected.

A still further object of the invention is 'to provide a garment of the character described wherein the slit and the separable fastening means are at such a portion of the sleeve as to reinforce the elbow thereof.

These and other objects will be apparent from the following specification when taken with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 3 is a view of a garment disclosing sleeves 5 Referring particularly to the drawing, the reference character 1 indicates a garment shown as a shirt but which may be a hunting coat, jacket or other type of sleeved garment. The garment .i is provided with the usual buttons 2 for closing the front thereof and a conventional collar 3.

The sleeve 6 is provided with a conventional cuff 5 having an overlappingopen edge portion t, which is closed by a button I projecting through a buttonhole 1; In alignment with the edge portion 6 is the usual forearm slit textending a short distance above the cuff. A longitudinal slit 2! extends from the forearm slit 8 to adjacent the shoulder portion. The opposededges of the longitudinal slit ii are connected by a separable slide fastener it, although it is contemplated that other fastening structure may be employed if desired.

As shown particularly in Figs. 1 and 2, the separable slide fastener it terminates at its lower end between the edges of the forearm slit ll so that not only does the forearm slit libecome a part of the-longitudinal slit 9, but also the slide member ii of the separable vslide fastener iii is concealed between the overlapping edges of the forearm slit 3. As shown, the garment i is provided with breast pockets it closed by th buttons it.

In using the garment according to the-present invention, should the wearer wish to bare his arms, it is necessary only to unbutton the buttons l and separate the opposed edges of the slits 9 by opening the separable slide fasteners Ill. The wearer's arms are then fully exposed. In order to hold the sleeves 4 back so that they will not interfere with theiwork of the wearer, the cuffs 5 may be buttoned by means of their buttonholes l to the breast pocket buttons it, as shown particularly in Fig. 3. It will be understood, of course, that in the absence of the breast pocket buttons it the cuff 5 may be buttoned to the buttons 2, closing .the front of the garment. Should the cuffs E be closed by another type of fastener than the buttons 1, it is contemplated that there may be provided on the front of the garment i fastening means with whichthe fastening devices on the cuff 5 may be connected for holding back the sleeves in a manner similar to that shown in Fig. 3. Instead of holding back the sleeves =3 across the front of the earment, as shown and described, it will be understood that the sleeves 4 may be fastened together by their cuff fasteners, that is, a button I on one cuff and a buttonhole 'i' on the other cuff, or their equivalents, behind the wearer.

In Fig. 4 a desirable location for the slit 9 is disclosed, namely, passing over the outside or tip of the elbow, where greatest wear is likely to occur. Thus, when the opposed edges of the slit 9 are connected by the separable slide fastener III, the separable slide fastener l0 serves as a I reinforcement for the outside of the elbow, prolonging the wear of the garment.

In garments the sleeves of which are not provided with a forearm slit 8 it will be understood that the slit 9 and its separable fastener l0 may extend to the extreme outer end of the sleeve.

In such a case it may be necessary to fasten to the outer portion of the sleeve a button or the like for holding back the sleeves, as shown in Fig. 3.

Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure byLetters Patent and claim is:

In a garment, a sleeve having a slit therein extending from the outer end thereof to a point substantially above the elbow portion, said slit extending along the outside portion of said sleeve. separable fastening means connecting a substantial length of the opposed edges of said slit and reinforcing said sleeve at the elbow portion, and cooperating means on said sleeve and the garment for connecting the outer end of said sleeve to the garment when said opposed edges are disconnected.

2. In a garment a. sleeve, 9. cufi on'the outer end thereof, a. slit in said sleeveextending from the outer end thereof to a point substantially above the elbow portion,- a separable slide fastener connecting a substantial length of the opposed edges of said slit, means for fastening the ends of said cuff together, and fastening means on said garment, said means on said cuff and on said garment being connectable for connecting the outer end of said sleeve to the garment when said opposed edges are disconnected.
