Application October i8, 19311, Serial No. 169,571 's ciaims. win32-'19) My invention relates to a vanity case particularly adaptedv for mascara and lipstick.

Among the objects of my invention is to create a vanity case adapted to hold mascara and a brush for applying the same; said vanity case so constructed as to hold two shades of mascara, such as black for conventional day use, and blue for formal or evening use; to supply a vanity case for holding both mascara and lipstick in such a manner that both may be successfully used directly from the vanity case; to provide a vanity case in which one end holds and acts as the handle end of a mascara brush, and the other end acts as a holder and applicator of lipstick and such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.

While I have shown in the accompanying drawing preferred embodiments of my invention, yet I wish it understood that the same are susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Referring to .the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1 my invention comprises a container I0 having side walls -I I, a closed bottom I2 and an open top I3 closed by agcap I4 adapted to irictionally fit said top. Attached to the inside of walls II is a cake cimascara I5 having an open central portion I6 running substantially the length of the container. A brush I1 comprises a rod I8, the upper end of which is attached to the cap I4, and the lower end of which holds bristles I9. The brush I1 when not in vuse extends within open central portion I6 and is smaller in diameter or width so as not to contact the mascara I5. To use the brush, the user removes the cap I4 from the body of the container I0 and, using the cap I4 as a handle, rubs the brush against the mascara cake I5 on the inside of walls Ii. The brush picks up the mascara and the user then may apply it to the eye lashes.

Referring to Fig. 2, my embodiment therein shown particularly provides for a container IIB having a rectangular shape providing straight walls 20. These walls are particularly adapted to hold mascara of two different shades. Ordinarily black is a preferred shade for mascara but there are times when a user desires a more daring shade such as blue for evening or formal use. Naturally the black mascara is used more often than the blue so that a container having both shades should have a greater quantity of black than blue. As particularly illustrated in Fig. 3 wherein the cake of mascara includes two shades, the black mascara 2| occupies the greater portion of the cake, and the blue mascara 22 the 1 lesser portion. The amounts may vary so that they may be equal, or the blue mascara may be greater or less in proportion to the black in any desired degree. Because my container ispreferably rectangular in shape, and the cake of mascara I5 is also rectangular, the brush may be applied to either black or blue without contact with the other shade.

Instead of the closed bottom I2 of Fig. 2, I provide as now shown in Fig. 3 another cap 23 removably attached to the body of the container I Il by friction. Attached to the inside bottom of said cap 23 is a holder 24 into which is tted a lipstick 25. With my vanity case so fitted with lipstick the user may by removing one end use it to rouge her lips and by removing the other end use it to mascara her eye lashes. It is also within the contemplation of my invention that the holder 24 may -hold eye brow pencil instead of lipstick.

The preferred form of attaching the brush I'I to the cap I4 is to cut the top of the cap III and bend inwardly portions 26. The top of rod IB is placed between portions 26 and by pinching portions 26 together on rod I8, brush I'I is held in, xed position. An ornamental member 2'I having a top 28 may have downwardly extending portions 2liy adapted to fit between portions 26 and rod I8 so as to hold brush I1 in ilxed position.

While I have shown two shades of mascara in Fig. 3, yet it is within the spirit of my invention that a plurality of shades may be used. My square container -is particularly adaptable to three or even four shades of mascara, so that conceivably my vanity case would hold black, brown, blue and green mascara. The square container permits a user to contact one shade without danger of contacting any other shade because the walls are straight and defined.

Having thus describedv my invention, I claim: 1. A vanity case comprising a rectangular container having an open top, the inner walls of said containerhaving one shade of mascara on one side and another shade of mascara on ansired by the user.

2. A vanity case comprising a container having open ends, the inner walls of said container having mascara attached thereto, a removable Vcap on each end of said container, one of said caps having a brush extending into said container and the other cap holding a lipstick; said brush adapted upon removal of the cap from the container to enter the open end of the container and to contact and pick up thereon the mascara from the inner walls as desired by the user.

A vanity case comprising a container having an open top, the inner walls of said container having mascara attached thereto, a removable cap on each end of said container, one of said caps having a brush extending into said container and the other cap yholding an eyebrow pencil, said brush adapted upon removal of .the cap from the container to enter the open end of the container and to contact and pick up thereon the mascara from the inner walls as desired by the user.

A vanity case comprising a container having an open top, mascara coated on the inner walls of said container and leaving a central bore, a removable cap for the open top oi' said container, the top of said cap cut at the'center to form downwardly extending portions, a brush having a rod, the upper end of said rod held between said downwardly extending portions, said brush having bristles at its lower portion extending into said central bore, said brush being smaller in cross section than said bore so that the bristles Aof said brush do not accidentally touch and pick up an undesired amount of mascara from the inner walls; said brush adapted upon removal of the cap from the container to enter the open top of the container and to contact and pick up thereon the small and exact amount of mascara from the inner walls as desired by the user.

A vanity case comprising a container having an open top, mascara attached to the inner walls of said container and having a central bore, a removable cap i'or the open top oi said container, the top of said cap cut at the center to form downwardly extending portions, 'an ornamental member having a top portion for covering the cut part of the top oi said cap, and having lower extensions. extending between said downward extending portions, a brush having a rod, the upper end of said rod held between said extensions, said brush having bristles at its lower portion extending into said central bore, said brush being vsmaller in cross section than said bore so that the bristles of said brush do not accidentally touch and pick up an undesired amount of mascara from the inner walls; said brush adapted upon removal of the cap from the container to enter the open top of the container and to contact and pick up thereon the small and exact amount of the mascara from the inner walls as desired by the user.

6. A vanity case comprising a container having an open top, a plurality of shades of mascara attached to diierent portions of the inner walls of said container, said mascara having a central bore, a removable cap for the open top of said container, and a brush attached to said cap, said brush being of smaller cross section than said central bore, said brush extending into said central bore so as to be free from accidental contact with the walls of the container; said brush adapted upon removal of the cap from the container to enter the open top of the container and to contact and pick up thereon the shade and exact amount of mascara from the inner walls as desired by the user.

1. A vanity case comprising a container having an open top, a. cake of cosmetic material attached to the inner walls of said container and having a hollow portion, a removable cap for the open' top of said container, and a brush" attached to said cap, said brush being smaller in cross section than the lateral extent of said hollow portion so that said brush when not in use extends into said hollow portion without touching and picking up any of the cosmetic material on the walls of the container, said brush adapted upon removal of the cap from the container to enter the open end of the container and to contact and pick up thereon the correct and small amount of mascara from the inner walls desired by the user.
