Description
M. PRICE. Bosom-Board,
Pate n ted Sept. 17. 1878.-
NPETERS. FHOTO-UTHOGRAFHER, WASHINGTON, 0 C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MOUBICE PRICE, OF NEW YORK, n. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOSOM-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,120, dated September 17, 1879 application filed August 17, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Monmon PRICE, of the city and State of New York, haveinvented an Improvement in Bosom-Boards, of which the following is a specification:
Tables have been made with bosom-boards projecting from one end, upon which the shirtbosom is held while being ironed, and the shoulder portions of the shirt have been held at the end of the bosom-board by clamps, and clamps have also been applied at the lower end of the shirt-bosom to hold the same and maintain a tension upon the bosom while bein g ironed.
My invention relates to a peculiar clamp appliedto the endofthebosom-board,and adapted to hold the shirt firmly at the shoulder portions while being stretched and ironed. This clamp, being at the end of the bosom-board, is swung back out of the way while the shirt is being slipped over the bosom-board. This clamp occupies but little space, and hence the neck-band of the shirt can be freely passed over the same, and there is nothing beneath the bosom-board hence therecis ample room for the shirt.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan of the end of the bosom board and holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a view endwise of the board.
The bosom-board a is of any usual size or character, and it is placed horizontally, or nearly so, and by preference projects from a table. The end is beveled at an inclination corresponding to the shoulder portions of the shirt, and there are grooves at 2 in the end of the board for the clamps that press the shirt and hold the same.
The metal frame 12 projects from the end of the board, and is attached firmly at the under side of said board, and upon this frame are the pivots 0 0, upon which swing the clamps d d, having blocks m, of india-rubber or other material, at their ends, to press the shirt into the grooves 2, and hold the same.
The clamps (Z (Z have toe-pieces i, which come near each other when the clamps are in use, but which do not prevent thev clamps swinging away from the end of .the board and out of the way of the shirt, as indicated by dotted lines.
There is a sliding plate, f, with two lugs, 0 0, that operate upon the two toe-pieces z' to confine them and press the clamps upon the shirt; and in order to give end motion to this plate f, I employ the lever l, that is pivoted at 3 to the plate a. This plate a is connected with the frame b by screws or rivets, there being the necessary space intervening for the swinging clamps d d.
The sliding plate f is guided by the lugs 5 5 upon d, and by the screw 6, that passes through a slot in said plate f and there is a pin or stud, 7, upon the lever l, thatpasses into a transverse slot in the plate f, so as to give to such plate the end motion necessary to clamp or to liberate the toes 2'.
Upon a segmental portion of the lever l there are ratchet-teeth, and a spring-pawl, 1", acts with these teeth to hold the lever l, and through it the plate f, toes 0, and clamps d, firmly against the shoulder portions of the shirt while the bosom is being stretched and ironed. Upon releasing this spring-pawl the lever can be moved and the clamps liberated and turned back out of the way.
I claim as my invention- The swinging clamps d cl, pivoted upon the frame I) at the end of the bosomboard, in combination with the toes i, sliding plate f, lugs o, actuating-lever l, and pawl r, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
Signed by me this 15th day of August, A. D. 1878.
MOURIOE PRICE.
