Description
Nov. 3, 1936. 2,059,663
T. B. I. SC'JRENSEN- FOLDING COLLAR Filed Oct. 25, 1934 Patented Nov. 3, 1936 UNITED STATES FOLDING COLLAR Thora Birgitte Ingeborg Siirensen, Copenhagen, Denmark Application October 25, 1934, Serial No. 749,872 In Denmark November 25, 1933 3 Claims.
The present invention relates to a folding collar, preferably of that kind which is fixed to the shirt. '1
As will be known shirts with fixed collar have to be laundered more often than shirts with detachable collars, which is a fault, but the employment of detachable collars have besides their advantages likewise their disadvantages.
The object of the present invention is to obviate the disadvantages and maintain the advantages.
According to the present invention the collar band of the shirt is provided with not only the ordinary outer collar, but with furthermore an extra outer collar arranged in such a manner that it may be adjusted in two positions in which it either covers the ordinary outer collar, or lies hidden inside the neck band. This extra outer collar is sewn by means of a protecting tape or band or the like to the inner side of the neck 20 band immediately below the connecting seam between this neck band and the ordinary outer collar.
One manner of performing the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, where Figs. 1 and 2 show a part of a shirt with fixed collar and extra outer collar in two different positions and seen in vertical section, and
Fig. 3 a similar part with a fixed collar and the extra outer collar in its intermediate vertical position, seen from the front.
With reference to the drawing l indicates the ordinary collar, which in known manner is attached to the upper edge of the neck band 2, while 3 indicates a portion of that part of the shirt to which the lower edge of the neck band is attached. The extra outer collar 4 is by its unseamed edge sewn on to the inner side of the neck band in such a manner that a tape 5 or the like covers the seam.
within the neck band so that its wrong side faces the neck of the wearer, whereas this outer collar 4, which is so much larger than the outer collar I that it may entirely cover the latter, is shown in its operative position in Fig. 2.
In order to prevent the extra outer collar when in operative position to curl and thus disclose the ordinary outer collar, the extra outer collar is on its inner side provided with devices at its points by means of which the two outer collars may be connected together, said devices comprising preferably a pocket or sheath that engages the points of the outer collar i.
In Fig. 3, in which 55 shown bent upwards giving a view the extra outer collar is of inner side,
In Fig. 1 the extra outer collar 4 is bent down the pocket or sheath indicated by 6 is sewn along the edges of the points, being open along the line 1 and through which opening the points of the outer collar l are inserted with the object of connecting the collars together.
The pocket or sheath 6 may be formed by slitting the inner side of the extra outer collar, which slit then acts as insertion for the points of the outer collar I. In this instance the edge seam is placed as close to the edge of the collar 4 as possible to avoid the difference in size between the collars 4 and I in becoming too great, and both collars may have the same shape.
A folding collar in accordance with the present invention will, as is evident, benefit the same as two ordinary collars and at the same time eliminate the disadvantages hitherto known.-
As mentioned above the invention is preferably intended for employment in connection with shirts provided with fixed collars, but it may likewise be applied in connection with detachable collars. In this instance the part indicated by 2 forms the inner portion of the collar, and the shirt is then provided with a special neck band.
Otherwise the manner of performance and the employment may vary from that described without therefore deviating from the scope of the invention.
I claim: a
1. In a collar of the character described, a neck-band, a main collar carried by said neckband and folded outwardly thereof, an auxiliary collar attached to the inner upper portion of the neck-band of substantially the same size and shape as the main collar, said auxiliary collar being adapted to cover the outer surface of the main collar and alternately lie against the inner surface of the neck-band, and means carried by the auxiliary collar for detachably securing the same to the main collar when in a position to cover the latter.
2. In a collar of the character described, a neck-band, a main collar carried by said neckband and folded outwardly thereof, an auxiliary collar attached to the inner upper portion of the neck-band of substantially the same size and shape as the main collar, said auxiliary collar being adapted to cover the outer surface of the main collar and alternately lie against the inner surface of the neck-band, and strips secured to the edges of the auxiliary collar and adapted to lie on the inner side of the main collar to attach said collars together when the auxiliary collar is in a position to cover the main collar.
3. In a collar of the character described, a main collar and alternately lie against the inner neck-band, a main collar carried by said necksurface of the neck-band, and pockets formed on band and folded outwardly thereof, an auxiliary the inner side of the auxiliary collar for receivcollar attached to the inner upper portion of the ing the P ts Of the main Collar for Securing neclbband of ubstantially t Same Size and said collars together when the auxiliary collar is 5 shape as the main collar, said auxiliary collar in Position to cover the main collarbeing adapted to cover the outer surface of the THORA BIRGITTE INGEBORG Si RENSEN.
