This invention relates to combined neck-band and collar for mens shirts, the purpose being to provide a shirt having an attached collar and an attached neck-band so relatedly positioned 1 that the shirt may be used with the neck-band to which a detachable collar may be applied or may be used with the attached collar in which case the neck-band is to a major extent covered by the collar proper with the two ends of the neck-band serving and appearing as part of the collar when secured together.

These and other features of construction of our improved neck-band and shirt collar combination are hereinafter more fully described and claimed,

,and the preferred form of construction of the portion of a shirt embodying our invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. 1 is an-elevation showing the attached collar in position for use.

Fig. 2 is a view showing the parts when positioned for use of the neck-band.

Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the shirt open and disclosing the neck-band in its position of use with the collar folded within the shirt therebelow.

Fig. 4 is a side elevation partly in section showing the collar proper with the collar folded over the neck-band.

In the preferred form of construction a portion of a shirt is indicated at 1 and this shirt is an open front shirt, the two edges of which are overlapped and are buttoned together as indicated at 2 in the usual way. The collar 3, which is preferably a soft collar, is shown in position of use in Fig. 1 and this collar is formed with a reinforcing strip 4 providing the neck-band portion of the collar and is attached to the shirt at 5 as will be more readily understood from Fig. 3. The neck-band 6 is also attached at practically this same line to the shirt and in the position shown in Fig. 3 the collar 3 and including the neck-band or strip 4 thereof is folded within the shirt leaving the neck-band 6 upstanding and the shirt front may be buttoned together to bring the neckband 6 to the position shown in Fig. 2 with the collar 3 therebelow. If it is desired to use the collar and not the neck-band as in Fig. 2, the collar from the position in Fig. 3 is turned upward and over the neck-band, the reinforcing strip or portion 4 then lying parallel with the inner face of the neck-band 6 and the flap portion of the collar turned over the band as the stitching of the collar to the reinforcing strip comes to practically the same height as the upper edge of the neck-band 6 and thus the collar member is stiffened at the neck-band by both the strip 4 and the neck-band portion 6 and with the flap portion not so stiffened but nevertheless supported by the neck-band 6.

The strip 4 is less in length than the neck-band 0 proper 6 so that in using the shirt with either the neck-band in position for the attachment of a detachable collar as in Fig. 2 or if the collar portion 3 is turned over the neck-band, the buttonholes 8 and 9 are used to secure the neck-band or 65 the collar at the front. The neck band 6 of course is also provided with a buttonhole 10 to hold the rear of the detachable collar.

The neck-band and collar therefore are formed integrally by reason of their permanent attach- 7 ment to the shirt and the neck-band may be used individually as in Fig. 2 or the neck-band and collar may both together function in the supporting of the collar portion in the position shown in Fig.

1 as the neck-band in such position of the parts supports the collar and tends to hold it in shape.

From the foregoing description it will be evident that our improved collar and neck-band construction is simple and inexpensive in character, and that the structure disclosed embodies the invention.

Having thus briefly described our invention, its utility and mode of operation, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. In a shirt, a neck-band attached at one edge thereto and having separable ends adapted to be secured together, collar member having a band attached to the interior of the shirt along the same line as the line of attachment of the neck-band thereto, said collar band portion being of substantially the same width as the said neck-band, and an outer collar portion connected with the band only of the collar providing a construction in which the collar may be folded over the neck band of the shirt whereby the collar is supported by the neck-band in conjunction with the collar band, the structure providing that when the separable ends of the neck-band are connected together the said ends appear as a portion of the 1 collar that is folded thereover.

2. In a shirt, a neck band attached at one edge to the exterior of the neck opening of the shirt and having separable ends adapted to be secured together, a collar member having a neckband less in length than the neckband of the shirt and formed of a sufficient number of plies to provide a stiffness of material to serve as a neckband, and attached to the interior of the shirt along the same line as the line of attachment of the neck- 11-0- lies between the collar band and the neckband and provides a construction wherein the collar portion is supported at the stitched edge by the collar band and supported at the fold line by the neckband of the shirt.
