This invention relates to foundation or formfitting garments and has for one of its objects the provision of a form-fitting garment having an extensible back and a relatively non-extensible front, the extensible back being so shaped that the extensible material at the waistline is wider than at the lower edge of the back, thereby enabling the garment to be pulled up over the hips without side openings of any kind and at the same time providing for the desired control of the hips.

The invention also provides a garment of the type above referred to in which the extensible back of the garment is cut on the bias from the shoulders to the waistline to impart greater elasticity to the back at this part of the garment, for cooperation with the bust supporting part of the non-extensible garment front.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the garment of this invention comprises a front I of non-extensible material, such as silk for example, While the back 2 is of elastic fabric, the edges of these two panels being permanently attached to each other throughout their extent.

Inasmuch as one of the objects of this invention is to provide a foundation garment which will be snug fitting and yet capable of being pulled up over the hips without the necessity of providing openings to permit of so doing, which in turn necessitates the use of hooks, fasteners, laces or other fastening devices, I shape the extensible back panel so that it is appreciably wider at the waistline, say at 3 than at the lower edge 4. This provides a garment of much increased elasticity at the waistline, as distinguished from prior garments in which it is customary to have less elasticity at the waistline, enabling my garment to be pulled up over the hips, the relatively narrow lower portion of the extensible panel at the same time confining the hips when the garment is in place, which is very desirable.

The extensible back or rear panel 2 is cut on the bias from the shoulders 5 to the waistline to increase the elasticity of the panel at this portion of the garment for cooperation with the bustsupporting portion 6 of the front of the garment.

From all the foregoing it will be seen that my invention provides a foundation garment in which the front and rear panels are permanently stitched together along their edges throughout their extent, the panel 2 being so shaped, i. e.' wider at the waistline than at the bottom, that openings of any kind in the panels or between the panels are unnecessary in order that the garment may be pulled up over the hips.

It is to be understood also that while the ex-. tensible back or rear panel of the garment has been shown in one piece it may be composed of several pieces if desired or of alternate panels of extensible and non-extensible'material.

What is claimed is: i 1. A foundation or form-fitting garment having an extensible panel constituting the back of the garment, a non-extensible panel constituting the front of the garment, the edges of the panels being attached to each other alongside .seams throughout the extent of the panels, the upper part of the extensible panel at the waist line of the garment being wider than the lower edge of the extensible panel to enable the waist portion of the garment to be pulled up over the hips, the upper edge of the extensible panel being cut on the bias from the shoulders toward the waist line.

2. A foundation or form-fitting garment comprising an extensible panel constituting one section of the garment, a non-extensible panel constituting the, other section of the garment, the

edges of the panels being permanently attached to each other throughout the extent of the panels, the upper part of the extensible panel at the Waist line of the garment being wider than the lower edge of the extensible panel to enablethe waist portion of the garment to be pulled up over the hips. I

A foundation or form-fitting garment comprising in combination a panel of extensible material constituting the back of the garment, a panel of non-extensible material constituting the front of the garment, said panels being permanently attached to each other along their side seams adjacent their edges throughout the extent of the panels, the upper part of the extensible panel at the waistline of the garment being wider than the lower edge of the extensible panel to enable the waist portion of the garment to be pulled up over the hips while retaining the hip confining properties of the lower portion of the garment.
