Description
J. SIEGEL July 17, 1934.
GARMENT Filed Deo. 27, 1932 Patented jetty il?? lg3d@ ratas enrayer The invention relates to garments and has for one of its objects to provide an improved garment comprising upper and lower dress elements which cooperate to form a complete gure molding garment for controlling the figure from the bust through the waist to the hips and which are A detachably secured to each other to provide for selection of the proper combination of elements to iit the gure, to provide for choice oi style in im the same type and size of either element, and to provide for frequent changing or laundering of either element. Other objects are to provide van improved construction of brassire and an improved construction of girdle.
IThese and other objects of the invention will become apparent from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of a garment 2@ showing an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof; Figure 3 is an enlarged inner side elevation, partly broken away, showing a portion oi the garment. l
The garment, as shown in the drawing, comprises the upper and lower dress elements 1 and 2, respectively, the former being a brassire and the latter being a girdle. The lower dresselement or girdle has the front section 3 which is provided with the longitudinally extending primary bones i and the longitudinally extending pair of secondary bones 5 at opposite sides of the primary bones. All of these bones extend from the upper edge portion of the front section and the primary bones are relatively long and the secondary bones are relatively short. The lower dress element or girdle has the rear section 6 whichhas the laterally spaced longitudinally extending pairs of bones 7 with the laterally inner bones or" each pair extending from near the upper edge to near the lower edge of the section and the laterally outer bones of each pair with their upper ends a substantial distance below the upper ends of the laterally inner bones. The rear section is 45 also provided at the opposite sides of the pairs ci. bones 7 with the pairs of bones 8, the upper ends of which terminate a substantial distance below the upper edge of the rear section and with the bones 8' at the opposite sides of the bones 8 5p \and near the side elastic webbings 9 of the lower dress element or girdle, the bones 8 being at the upper portion. Y l
The upper dress element or brassire overlaps and encircles the lower dress element or girdle 'lit and both open at one side of the garment, the
openings preferably registering with each other and their edges at these openings being suitably secured to each other` as by means of hooks and eyes. The front section 10 of the upper dress element or brassire is detachably secured to the g@ front section 3 of the lower dress element or girdle by means of the tapes 11 secured to the front section 10 and extending through the holes 12 in the front section 3 below the secondary bones 5 and the buttons 13 secured to the inner side of 65 the front section 3. The portion of the front section to which the buttons are secured is preferably reinforced. The rear section 1a of the upper dress element or brassire is detachably secured to the rear section 6' of the lower dress element or 7@ girdle by means of the tapes 15 secured to the rear section le and extending through the holes 16 in the rear section 6 and the buttons 1'? upon the tapes 18 which in turn are secured to the inner side of the rear section 6. These tapes and g5 buttons are so located that they are at opposite sides of the pairs of bones 7 and adjacent to and preferably slightly above the upper ends of the laterally outer bones of these pairs. It will be noted that the tapes 11 and 15 are provided with g@ pairs o vertically spaced holes for engaging the buttons to thereby provide for adjustably securing the upper dress element or brassire to the lower dress element or girdle..
For the purpose of providing for greater flexibility o the garment, have provided the front section 3 with the elastic webbing gore 19 in its central lower portion, the rear section 6 with the elastic webbing gore 20 in its central upper portion and the rear section 14 with the 9@ elastic webbing gore 21 in its central lower portion land registering with the gore 20.
To hold down the side portions of the upper dress element or brassire intermediate the se- I curing elements, I have provided the bones 22 in 95 the lower parts of these side portions and between the securing elements, the bones being at an angle and inclined downwardly and forwardly.
From the above description, it will be readily seen that I have provided an improved complete figure molding garment for controlling the figure from the bust through the waist to the hips. It will also be seen that the portion of the upper' dress element or brassire overlapping the lower 05 dress element or girdle is properly held in place.
It will further be seen that I have provided a garment which enables the selection of the proper combination of brassire and girdle to fit the ngure and which enables choice of style in the 110 same type and size ot either the brassire or the girdle and which enables ready changing or laundering of thebrassire or the girdle.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A combination garment comprising a lower dress element having"a series of holes spaced from its upper end, an upper dress element overlapping said lower dress element at the outer side thereof, and means for detachably securing` said dress elements together, comprising tapesf depending from the lower end of said upper dress element and extending through said holes and downwardly at the inner side of said lower dress element, and cooperating means upon said lower dress element and the lower portions of said tapes below said holes for detachably securing said tapes to said lower dress element.
2. A combination garment comprising a lower dress element having a series of holes spaced v from its upper end, an upper dress element overlapping said lower dress element at the outer side thereof, tapes secured to the lower end ol', said upper dress element and extending through said holes and at the inner side of said lower dress element, and means for detachably securing said tapes to said lower dress element, said means comprising elements on one detachably engaging holes in the other in zones vertically spaced from said rst mentioned holes.
3. A combination garment comprising a lower dress element having a series of holes spaced from its upper end, an upper dress element overlapping said lower dress element at the .outer side thereof, and means for detachably securing said dress elements together, comprising tapes depending from the lower end of said upper dress element and extending through said holes and downwardly at the inner side of said lower dress element, and buttons secured to said lower dress element at the inner side thereof below said holes the brassire is used for' detachably engaging the lower portions of said tapes.
4. A combination garment comprising a lower dress element, an upper dress element overlapping said lower dress element, means for securing said dress elements together at the front and rear, and stiiening means in the lower portions of said upper dress element intermediate said securing means and also extending adjacent the lower edges of said lower portions for holding'said lower portions in place.
5. A combination garment comprising a girdle, a brassire overlapping said girdle at the outer side thereof, means for securing said girdle and brassire together at the front and rear, and stiffening means in the lower portions of said brassire intermediate said securing means and also extending adjacent the lower edges of said lower portions for holding said lower portions in place, said stiffening means being independent vof said girdle.
6. A brassire having front, rear and side portions, said front and side portions having their lower edges substantially adjacent the waistline of the wearer, securing means for the front and rear portions and stiiening means in the side portions kand extending upwardly from adjacent the lower edges thereof whereby the lower parts of said side portions will be held in place when with a girdle.
7. Abrassire having front, rear and side portions, said front and side portions having their lower edges substantially adjacent the waistline of the wearer, securing means for the front and rear portions and stiiening means in the side portions and inclined upwardly and rearwardly from adjacent the lower edges thereof` whereby the lower parts of said side portions will be held in place when the brassire is used with a girdle.
