Description
H. CLOSTERMAN, Jr. FOLDING momma-cums.
No. 195,799, Patented 0ct.2,1877.
jttes Avenior UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY CLOSTERMAN, JR., OF, CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING ROCKING-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,799, dated October 2, 1877; application filed August 8, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY OLosTERMAN, Jr., of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Chair, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my chair. Fig. 2 is a sectional View, representing the same chair in its folded condition.
A represents an ordinary pair of rockers, having suitable connecting rings or stretchers a. B represents a pair of members, which constitute the rear legs, and also the front support of the seat L, whose front edge is so secured, by staples O, to rung b, at the upper part of member B, as to form a hinged connection therewith.
livoted at D to the front portion of the rockers A are two similar ogee-shaped pieces, E, secured at their upper ends, by means of screw-bolts F, to my chair-back Gr, tenons g on whose lower ends occupy sockets H on the members B.
Buttons I, which engage between sockets H and studs J, serve to secure the legs within said sockets. Dowels K on the front side of the back G enter sockets formed in the under side of the seat L.
The rung c, which unites the two pieces E, also supports, in their open position, the members B, as seen in Fig. 1.
The chair is reduced to its folded condition by lifting the rear edge of the seat and the lower end of the back out of their respective sockets and folding the members down upon one another, in the manner shown in Fig. 2.
I claim as new and of my invention In the described combination, the members B and E, pivoted to the rear and front of the rockers A, respectively, and of which the members B rest upon a rung, c, of said members E, a back, G, pivoted to said members E, and resting in sockets H on said members B, and secured by buttons I, and a seat, L,hinged in front to said members B, and supported in rear by dowels K, that occupy sockets in the said seat, all being constructed and arranged substantially as set forth.
In testimony of which invention 1 hereunto set my hand.
HENRY CLOSTERMAN, J R.
