UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE JAMES H. BEAN AND RICHARD W. BOX, OF PULASKI, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,865, dated OctoberlQ, 1875; application filed May 1, 1875. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES H. BEAN and RICHARD W. BOX, of Pulaski, in the county of ()swego and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Folding Chair, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of our improved folding chair, and Fig. 2 a vertical longitudiual sect-ion of the same as folded up.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention relates to an improved folding chair; and consists of a seat, which is pivoted to the back part, and the hind legs, which slide between the front legs for folding, and rest by projecting side lugs thereon when the seat is thrown in position for use.
In the drawing, A represents the seat, B the front legs, and U the hind legs, of our improved chair. The seat is pivoted by cross rods or pins 00.120 the front legs B, and to the front ends of the hind legs 0, allowing it to swing up toward the upper section B of the front legs, together with the hind legs 0, which slide along the inside of the front legs, and folding up into a very compact space with the seat and back, as shown in Fig. 2. The hind legs 0 are further connected by a cross-rod,
strength and convenience of operation, and
allows the ready packing up of the chair for shipment.
Having thus described. our invention, we
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The folding chair composed of the swinging seat A, the front and rear legs B and 0, provided, respectively, with the pins or rounds a and I), for holding the legs locked when interseeted, as shown and described.
