2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in safety razors, and more particularly to a flat handle construction for a safety razor which is rigidly supported by the head member of the razor and extends at right angles thereto.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved flat handle for a safety razor which will be rigidly supported by the head member of the razor, and which will be provided with an adjusting nut positively positioned within a recess in the handle for cooperation with the threaded shank of the cap member of the razor for clamping a double edged blade in position between the said head member and cap member.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved one piece flat handle for safety razors.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a one piece flat handle for safety razors which will be formed with spaced attaching arms at its inner end for riveting to the under surface of the head member of the razor, and which will also be formed with a bearing socket in which the bearing pin of the adjusting nut will be received, whereby said nut will be positively held between the under surface of the head member and the bearing socket.

Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawing to designate corresponding parts. 5 In carrying out my invention, I provide an improved form of handle for a safety razor, said handle being fiat and. of a same thickness throughout its entire length. The upper end of the handle 1 is formed with the spaced at- 'taching arms 2 between which the internally threaded adjusting nut 3 is adapted to be re ceived, and the outer or terminal ends of the arms 2 are formed into the reduced rivet heads 4 which will extend into and through openings formed in the head member 5 of a safety razor, 69 and which will be headed over so that the handle 1 will be rigidly supported by the said head member and will extend at substantially right angles thereto.
The head member 5 is provided with the teeth 6 disposed along the opposite side edges, and with a central opening 7 through which the threaded screw or stud 8 carried by the cap member 9, is adapted to freely pass. The said head and cap members 5 and 9 are provided with cooperating curved surfaces between which a double edged blade 10 is adapted to be received. Suitable positioning studs ll are formed on the cap member 9 to assist in properly positioning the blade 10, and openings are provided in the head member 5 through which the said positioning studs may extend.
As before mentioned, the upper end of the handle 1 is formed with the spaced attaching arms 2, providing a central recess whose lower portion is flat and extends transversely of the handle 1. A longitudinally disposed bearing socket 12 is formed in the base of the recess, and is adapted to receive the depending bearing pin 13 formed on the lower end of the adjusting nut 3, the upper end of said nut being in contact with the under surface of the head member 5, thereby when the handle, adjusting screw and head member are assembled, the adjusting nut is positively retained within the recess between the attaching arms 2, so that when the razor is disassembled, there will only be the three pieces which will be readily cleaned, and there will be no small parts to become lost, as often happens with many different types of razors when they are being 5 cleaned.
While I have illustrated and described the bearing pin for holding the adjusting screw in positive position within the central recess in the fiat handle, I am aware that other modified forms of bearing means might be arranged, the main purpose being to prevent the adjusting screw from being removed and from being lost While cleaning the razor.
It is obvious that with a flat handle, the maximum amount of bearing may be had on the handle, and the handle may be pivoted back and forth while shaving to meet the requirements V in shaving a particular face or coarseness of 110 beard. A much greater and free movement may be had by utilizing a flat handle than is possible with the usual type of round handle.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. A safety razor comprising a head member, a cap member, a threaded stud on said cap member adapted to pass through said head member, a blade interposed between said head and cap members, a flat handle having spaced adjusting arms riveted at their ends to said head member and extending transversely thereof and forming a recess between said arms, a bearing socket formed in the base of said recess, an adjusting nut being internally threaded at one end and having a depending bearing pin at the other end, said nut being received within said recess with the pin in said socket, and said threaded stud on said cap member being adjustably received within said internally threaded nut for manually adjusting and varying the cutting edges of said blade.
2. A safety razor comprising a head member, a cap member, a threaded stud on said cap member adapted to pass through said head member, a blade interposed between said head and cap members, a flat handle having spaced adjusting arms riveted at their ends to said head member and extending transversely thereof and forming a recess between said arms, a bearing 7 socket formed in the base of said recess, an adjusting nut being internally threaded at one end and having a depending bearing pin at the other end, said nut being received within the recess with the pin in said socket, and said threaded stud on said cap member being adjustably received within said internally threaded nut for manually adjusting and varying the cutting edges of said blade, said handle being rounded at its outer end and being of such a length whereby it may be pivotally swung between the users thumb and fingers throughout a maximum are limited by engagement of the head member with the palm and back of the users hand.
