SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 21, 1919.
Application filed April 16, 1917. Serial No. 162,291.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH J. Jones, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, suoh as will enable others skilled. in the art to which the invention appertains to 'make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in safety razors, and has for its object means whereby the blade holding portion thereof may be adjusted to any angle preferable to the'individual user of the razor.
Another object of the invention is to provide an extremely simple and effective blade holding member operable easily and quickly to insert therein, or to remove therefrom the blades.
With these and other objects in view, the invention will now be described with reference to the acoom anying drawing, which forms a part hereo igure 1 is an elevation view of the razor; Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same; Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmental view of the blade holding member; and Fig. 5 is a longitudinalseotional view of the blade holdingmember.
Corresponding and. like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in'all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
Let the numeral 5 represent the handle of the razor, and the numeral 6 one member of the blade holder. The upper extremity of the handle 5 is bifurcated, as shown at 7, and the member 6 is provided with an integrally formed 1i 8 on its rear edge that is bent at an ange to the surface of the member 6 and received in the said bifurcation 7 of the handle. A 'set screw 9 is passed through the bifurcated extremity of the handle 5 and serves as a fulcrum pin for the member 6, the said set screw 9 being passed through the lip 8-within the bifurcation 7. I he outer edge of the member 8 is provided with a plurality of fingers 10 that are curvedrearwardly and engage theface of the user of the razor. member 12 is adapted to be interlocked with the member 6 and hold the blade 13 in position between the member 6 and the locking member 12. To accomplish this function, the locking member 12 is provided with a hook 14 integrally secured to the inner side thereof and adapted to be passed through an opening 14 in the blade and an opening 15 in the member 6. T hen, by sliding the locking member 12 in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 5, the hook 14 will engage with the outer side of the member 6. The inner surface of the member 6 is provided with integral pins 16 thereon that are adapted to be received in openings 17 of the blade,'thereby holding the blade 13 against movement independently of the member 6. These pins 16 are only long enough to approximately correspond with the thickness A locking of the-blade 13. The locking member 13is slightly bow-shaped in a longitudinal direction, necessitating straightening out the bow-shape thereof in order. to interlock the hook 14 with the member 6. Thus, when the said hook 14 is so interlocked, the tension of the locking member 12 will firmly hold the same in its locking condition.
As illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, the blade'holding member 6 may be moved to any desired position with respect to the handle 5, thereby being adaptable to the The pin preference of the individual users. 9 may be tightened sufficiently to hold the bifurcated'extremity of the handle 5 tightly gripping the lip 8. and thereby holding the member 6 in its adjusted position.
While I have described and illustrated herein a specific form of my invention, it is understood that I am not limited thereto and that the same may be modified and varied without departing from the spirit of the invention, or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A razor, comprising a blade holding memher having an opening therein, a resilient Q I I ieieeee longitudinally curved locking member, the blade holding member and slid in a longiblade of the razor adapted to be engaged betudinal direction with the blade holding tween said blade holding member and said member to engage the latter on the opposite 10 looking member, and a hook mounted on side thereof. 5 said locking member substantially of the In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. center of the concave side thereof adapted Y to be received through said opening in the HUGH J. JONES.
