Description

Dec. 15, 1931'. ANDREWS 1,837,093
GUN ATTACHMENT Filed July 18, 1930 @Ltoznm o Patented Dec. 15, 1931 WEE gTstTfi ISAAC ANDREWS, F SPABTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA GUN ATTACHTI'IENT Application filed July 18, 1930. Serial No. 468,879.
This invent-ion relates to attachments for guns, the primary object of the invention being to provide means whereby the person using the gun may operate the trigger' by a movement of the thumb and index finger, dividing the effort of pull, making a squeeze movement of the fingers rather than a pull movement thereof, to permit the shooting of the gun with relaxed muscles.
Another obj ect of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily secured to the stock of a gun, at a point near the trigger, eliminating the necessity of: making alterations in the construction of the gun to mount tie attachment.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de-.
scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from he spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of anattachment constructed in accordance with the invention, the same being shown as mounted on a gun stock.
Figure 2 is a View of the attachment, illustrating the same in its active position.
Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the attachment.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the attachment comprises a body portion 5, which is in the form of a bell crank lever, the same being provided with an opening at a point intermediate its ends, which opening is designed to accommodate the attachipg screw 6, by means of which the device is secured to a gun stock.
The upper arm 7 of the body portion is formed with a fiat thumbpieee 8, that lies near the upper edge of the gun stock, directly above the trigger, so that it lies in close proximity to the thumb of the hand grasping the gun stock.
The lower arm 9 of the body portion is curved inwardly as at 10, and terminates in a substantially straight portion 11 which is formed with an opening to receive the pivot pin 12 that connects the arm 9 with the lever 13, as clearly shown by Figure 8 of the drawings. This lever 13 extends through the slot 1% of the trigger guard 15, and is provided with a cross pin 16, which pin rests on the inner surface of the guard to provide a fulcrum for the lever 13, the free end of the lever 13 being'curved to engage the trigger 17. Thus it will be seen that when pressure is exerted on the upper arm 7 of the body portion, the arm 9 is moved downwardly, causing the free end of the lever 13 to engage the trigger 17, to move the same rearwardly for operating the hammer of the gun.
It will also be seen that at the same time pressure is exerted on the thumb piece 8, a pull may be directed to the trigger 17, cans ing the operation of the trigger by a squeeze movement of the fingers rather than a pull movement of the index finger.
I claim:
1. A gun trigger actuating device comprising a bell crank lever mounted on the stock of the gun, one arm or the lever extending downwardly to a point below the trigger guard of the gun, a lever mounted on the bell crank lever and extended upwardly to engage the lower end of the trigger of the gun, and the opposite end of the hell crank lever adapted to be forced downwardly to operate the ISAAC ANDREWS.
