To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FRANK L. HANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of Linn and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tweezers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to tweezers for personal use, such as the removal of slivers, troublesome hairs, and the like, and has for its object to produce an inexpensive article of this nature and so constructed as to grip power- .fully, considering its size, and with the exercise of little effort on the part of the operator.

The nature of the invention will fully appear from the description and claims following, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of tweezers embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.

The body of the tweezers A is a fork of fiat spring-steel suitably pointed at B and provided with three holes C, D, and E. In these holes is mounted a wire lever F. One end of the lever lies in the hole 0, which as well as the other holes is somewhat larger than the wire, so as to allow for the necessary movement thereof. This end of the lever has a lip G, which serves as a fulcrum for it. The lever thence passes in a curve H through the hole D in the other leg of the tweezers and thence in a normally inclined direction toward the curved rear end of the tweezers. Thence the lever is bent downwardly at practically a right angle to the body and passes through the hole E, terminating under this leg of the tweezers in asmall lip I, to prevent disengagement and to limit the opening of the tweezerjaws.

The tweezers is operated by pressing the lever toward the opposite leg with the thumb and finger, and in so doing'the curve H moves back and forth a little in the hole through which it passes.

It will be evident that by reason of the lever the pinch of the tweezers is much greater than if it were dispensed with and the operator merely pressed the legs of the tweezers between his thumb and finger.

The device may be made of various sizes and for a great many uses, but for merely personal use would best be considerably smaller than shown in the drawings.

For convenience in assembling the parts the lip I should be short enough to pass through the hole E. The lever is then easily attached by passing its opposite ends through the holes D and (J, and then by springing the downwardly-turned end a little it may pass through the hole E.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A tweezers, comprising a'flat spring bent in fork shape, and having suitable holes therein, and a wire lever with terminal lips to engage the respectivelegs of the tweezers, one end of the lever passing through a hole near the end of one leg, a curved part of the lever passing v through an adjacent hole in the other leg, and an inwardly-bent portion passing through a hole near the spring-curve held permanently therein by its terminal lip, and adapted to move back and forth in said hole as the lever is operated, substantially as described.
