UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LUTHERA. VAN KUREN, OF BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK? IMPROVEMENT IN BOSOM l RONlNG-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 82,619, dated September 26, 1676; application filed June 12, 1876.
' tion In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view, and Fig. 2 a vertical longitudinal section on line m m, Fig. 1, of my improved ironing-board for shirt-bosoms.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved ironing-board for shirt-bosoms, by which the bosoins may be stretched to the required tension in an easy, quick, and readilyadjusted manner.
The invention consists of a bosom-board, with bottom crossstrips and beveled bar or piece hinged at one end of the board.
In the drawing, A represents a board for ironing shirt-bosoms, which is curved and pointed at one end for the neck-band, and provided with a hinged cross-piece or bar, B, at the opposite end that fastens, in connection with the extended cross-strip O, the lower part of the shirt; The hinged piece B is made beveled at the upper side, so that the strain is brought below the hinges, and thereby the swinging piece retained in position on the cross-strip.
When the shirt is to be applied the crosspiece B is swung up, and the proper tension on the board is then given to the bosom by the hands. The shirt and cross-piece are then jointly carried down on the cross-strip and held securely by the same and the board, as the line of tension is below the hanging of the stretching-bar. The hinged bar B is extended at both sides over the board, to admit the readier swinging into downward and upward positions.
The bosom is by means of the swinging-bar readily stretched to the required degree of tension, and tightly held for being ironed until released by the raising of the bar.
Having thus described my inven tion, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of a bosom-ironing board, having projectingcross or base strip, with a hinged and beveled bar or cross-piece, substantially as and forthe purpose set forth.
LUTHER A. VAN KUREN.
