ALPHONSO APPLEGATE AND ROBERT O. APPLEGATE, OF PHILADELPHIA,
PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN IRONING-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,740, Adated June 9, 1874; application filed February 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concer-n:
Be it known that we, ALrHoNso APPLE- GATE and ROBERT OLIVER APPLEGATE, both of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is aside view of our invention. Fig.2 is a top view. Fig. 3 is a bottom view.
Our invention has for its object to produce an ironing-table which, when not in use, may be compactly folded.
The nature of our invention consists in the provision of several important additions to the ordinary ironing-board, and in the novel construction and combination of parts, as
Referring to the accomnying drawing, A is the board, to the under side of which, near its center, are fastened two pairs of legs by means of lugs or hinges. B represents one pair of legs, those nearest the point of the which the legs are secured, said lugs passing through the board A, and being provided with metallic washers cl el. The front legs -B are secured to the lugs D by means of screws b, while the back, legs C are provided with straps c, fastened on their under side. Vhen not in use the legs will lie folded toward the point of the board. b1 represents a swiveled rest, which, when the table is in use, rests against the cleat a on the under side of the board A. vVhen the legs B are folded, this rest is turned down and lies on the .block b2 on the legs B. E represents an iron holder, made preferably of metal, and secured to the upper side of the board A by means of screws passing through the legs e e. F and G are, respectively, bosom and sleeve boards, provided with pieces j' and g, which project beyond the end of said boards, and serve to hold them in position above the iron-board, or above any table upon which they may be used. For use in connection with this ironing-board, the projecting' piece f or g is inserted in a recess beneath the iron holder or stand E. When not in use, the boards F and Gr are fitted in a rack, H, on the under side of the ironing-board A, said rack being designed to be made large enough to accommodate both at once. The washers d el prevent the lugs from being drawn through the board A.
Vhat we claim as our invention isl. The combination, with the ironing-board A, of the two diverging pairs of legs B C, pivoted or hinged to the boa-rd near the center thereof, and adapted to fold toward one end, substantially as shown and described.
2. In combination with the board A and iron-stand E, the bosom-board F, provided with the L-shaped projecting piece f, as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony th at we claim the foregoing, we have'hereunto set our hands this 18th day of February, 187 4.
ALPHONSO APPLEGATE. ROBERT O. APPLEGATE.
