Q mvmon UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
EMILY A. HILL, OF PRINCETON, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,438, dated April 16, 1878; application filed November 27, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILY A. HILL, of Princeton, in the county of Gibson and State of Indiana, have invented an Improvement in Ironing-Tables, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side view, and Fig. 2 a top View, of my improved ironing-board.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. Y
My invention is animprovement in the class of ironing-tables in which the ironing-board proper is hinged and pivoted so that one end thereof may be raised and turned to one side, to enable shirts or other garments to be conveniently drawn over it preparatory to being ironed.
The improvement consists in providing the ironing-board proper with a hinged tray or box-like extension, which is pivoted to the stand or frame of the table. The tray serves to hold water-cup, sponge, hot irons, &c., and since it remains horizontal, whatever the position of the board proper, there is no danger of such articles being overturned.
In the drawing, A represents an ironingboard, which is hinged to a tray or stand, B, that serves for supporting the irons, watercup, and sponge. The ironing-board A and stand B are attached to the top of upright standards 0 by means of pins a, which pass through the board and stand, and through side strips or bearings b of the standards G, the pins being secured to the side strips by cross pins or keys.
The skirt or other article to be ironed is placed on the ironing-board A by lifting the same or swifiging it to either side on detachiiig the board fastening -pin a. A second board, D, is secured to inner guide-strips d of the standard, for the purpose of serving as a guard for the skirts or other articles, and preventing them from getting soiled by contact with the feet or ground.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In an ironing-table, the board A, in combination with the pivoted tray B and the frame or standard 0, said board being hinged at one end to the tray, as shown and described, whereby the tray will remain horizontal when the board is raised or turned upon. its hinge, as and for the purpose set forth.
EMILY A. HILL.
