UNITED STATES PATENT, CFFICE.
ISAAC R. KERN, OF BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO CHRISTIAN O. MARTENS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLO'WS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,254, dated May 9, 1876 {application filed February 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC R. KERN, of Bloomington, in the county of McLean, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part'ot' this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing and arranging the several parts of a plow in the peculiar manner hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, which make a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective View, and Fig. 2 a back view, of my plow, the handles being out off.
In the figures, A represents the beam of the plow, and B the standard, the beam and standard being both cast or wrought in one piece, and with cars a a and flange d, to which the mold-board and land-side are bolted. The standard, just above the mold-board, is curved or bent so that it stands partially over the mold-board, for the purpose of clearing it of trash and weeds and straw, which would be liable to collect upon it. D represents the mold-board, e the land-side, and O the point. at represents a brace, which is interposed and bolted to both the land-side and mold-board.
' F F represent the handles, the forward ends of which are inserted in sockets H, which are formed on each side of the beam. G represents a clip, which passes around the handles and the beam back of the sockets H, and
clamps the handles tightly to the beam. By
loosening up the clamp or clip G the handles may beset higher or lower, as the case may be, to adapt. them to a tall or a short man. The handles are pivoted to the beam by a bolt, y, which passes through both sockets and the ends of the handles.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. In combination with the mold-boardand land-side of a plow, the curved beam A B,
January, 1876.
. ISAAC R. KERN.
