or DANBURG, GEORGIA.
PLOW:
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,390, dated January 22, 1 884.
' Application filed October 12, 1883. No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern: Beit known that I, SIMEoN AsBERRY WARE, of Danburg, in the county of Wilkes and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
. Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved .plow, the detachable part of the beam being The invention consists of the detailed construction and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
A represents the plow-beam, the forward end of which is extended upward, and has three (more or less) holes, A, formed through it to receive the hookof the draft-connection B. The hook of the connection B is so formed that it can readily put in and taken out when swung back over the plow-beam, but cannot be put in or taken out when in aworking position.
The double-tree or whiftletree is designed to be attached to the connection; and the point of draft attachment can be raised or lowered by moving the connection from one to another of the holes A in the said plowbeam.
To the opposite sides of the middle part of the plow-beam A are secured by a bolt, 0, the forward ends of the handles D. The handles D are supported at the required elevation by the brace-bar E, which is bent into triangular form, and its ends are secured to formed two or more holes, G, to receive the part of the said beam.
or lower as the height of-the plow may require. The brace E can be placed at the inner or outer side of the handles, and W111 prevent thehandles from being spread too wide 'apart'whe'n the said brace is swung forward to raise the said handles.
In the bend of the plow-beam A is formed an offset, J, and to the lower part of the said beam is secured, by bolts K, a plate, L, made to correspond in shape with the said lower Upon the inner side of the lower end of the plate L is formed a projection, M, of a thickness equal to the width of the offset J, so that when the said plate L is bolted to the plow-beam a slot will be formed to receive the bolt N, that fastens the plow O to the plow beam. This construction allows a longer or shorter plow to be used, and also allows the plow to be moved down as it wears.
To the side of the lower end of the beam A is bolted a landside, I, to give steadiness to :the plow when being used, and which is slotted to receive the fastening-bolts, so that it can beadjusted as 'may be required. When required, the landside P can be detached and a blade or cutter, Q, secured, by the bolts h,
to the side of the beam, to out roots that may be in the soil, and which would oth r ise prevent the plow from being used. 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire tosecu re by Letters Patent- In a plow, the beam A, having the offset J cast in one piece therewith, and the plate L, having the projection M cast therewith, the projection M resting against one side of the beam A, and the plate L resting against the offset J and bolted to the beam A, in combination with the plow O and bolt N, fastened between the plate L and beam A, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth- SIMEON ASBERRY \VARE. Witnesses:
J AS. 13. ANDERSON, ZADOK SMITH.
