IMPROVEMENT IN CLEANSlNG COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 74,355, dated March 7, 1876; application filed August 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARGARET N. GROSS, of San Francisco city and county, State of California, have invented a Cleansing Oompound; and I do hereby declare the following description sufficient 'to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to an improved compound for cleaning articles of gold and silver, and other polished surfaces of metal, glass,
v marble, and other substances and it consists in a combination of materials, and a method of compounding them, so that I produce all the eifect of removing greasy or oily matter with a thorough polishing of the surface.
In the formation of my compound I first make a saturated solution of borax, also a saturated solution of sal-soda, which are mixed together in equal parts. 1 then take the substance known as whiting and mix it into the solution above mentioned, gradually stirring. and triturating it constantly until it has formed a thick paste, when it will be found to have become reduced to a mass without any gritty qualities. It may then be put up in boxes or packages for the market.
By this combination of substances and method of mixing them I provide a superior cleansing compound, and insure that impalpability of the solid portion that is so essential in any substance which is.employed to clean Witnesses:
