UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

IMPROVEMENT IN EvELE-rs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,094, dated J auuary 11, 1876; application led November 27,1875.
lifting out the Watch by means of the chain to which it is attached.
Theinvention consists in a short threaded cylinder having an outer flange, the cylinder being passed through the covering of the watch-pocket, and secured in place by an annular nut, all constructed as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a front view, Fig. 2 a section, and Fig. 3 a back view, of the invention upon an enlarged scale.
A represents the material of the pocket. A perforation is made therein, through Whichis passed from the outside ot' the vest or article of clothing the short threaded cylinder B, the flange c of which is made to rest against the outer part of the pocket. 4C is an annular nut, which is screwed over the threaded cylinder from the inside of the pocket, the material being clamped between the ange a and the nut C; The chain is passed through the cylinder and secured to the Watch in the ordinary way, the inner surface of the cylinder being rounded at the flange, as shown, to prevent injury to the chain, while the end of the cyl-A e inder is also rounded to prevent its catching on or injuring the pocket. The inner edge or face of the nut C is beveled, as indicated,
to prevent the cutting of the material, While its outer edge is rounded, the cylinder and washer thus being smooth on the inside of the pocket. This device, in addition to serving as a guard, as described, prevents the pocket from being pulled or dragged down in front by the chain, `by Which the appearance of the pocket is in a measure destroyed. The material used ill the manufacture of this invention may be metal or vulcanized india-rubber.
VHaving described my invention, I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- An eyelet consisting of a threadeddanged hollow cylinder, and a correspondingly-threaded annular nut, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereto subscribed my name in the city of Baltimore the V 24th `day of November, in the year of our Lord, 1875.
