PATENT OFFICE.
BOHUMIL 201.1, or PRAGUE, ozEcnosLovAxm.
DEVICE FOR OPENING CONTAINERS, BOXES, TINS, OR THE LIKE.
Application filed January 17, 1928, Serial No. 247,391, and in Germany May 27, 1927.
This invention concerns improvements in or relating to devices for opening containers, boxes, tins or the like.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in. the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is asection on the line 11 in Fig. 2, Fig. 2 is a horizontal projection, and Fig. 3 a section on the line 33 in Fig. 2. Referring to the drawing the opener consists of an ovalstrip of sheet metal a with I a raised central portion 6 of oval shape and is provided with an opening 0 to accommodate a hollow rivet for the purpose of securing the opener to the lower portion of the container. The opener is providedwith a pressed out peripheral groove fraround the entire circumference of the raised middle portion 6 by means of which it engages with the edge of the cover. The edge g of the opener is turned over along the whole circumference approximately at right angles in the opposite direction to that in which the middle portion 6 protrudes, thus stiffening up the structure and removing the possibility of the operator cutting his hands on the edge of the opener.
A small flat surface extending to the edge only of the closed cover is pressed up in the lower part of the container when the same is 3 perforated, for this opener, so that'the tightness of the cover is as perfect as that of containers not provided with an opener.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my invention and in What manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
Device for opening containers, boxes, tins or the like, consisting of a flat pivoted member having a raised central portion with a peripheral groove which is adapted to engage with and lift up the edge of the lid of the container, and further having the edge turned over along the whole circumference approximately at right angles in the opposite direction to that in which the middle portion protudes. V
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
BOHUMIL POLAK.
