HAIR-WAVING DEVICE.
Application filed July 28, 1927. Serial No. 209,054.
This invention relates to hair waving devices and more particularly to the construction of the pins employed in what is known as permanent wave apparatus.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will enable the hair to be wound in much larger strands than may be ordinarily employed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pin of such construction that the hair adjacent the head is given a relatively large wave cfi'ect, while the end portions may be formed as ri lets.
A still furt er object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and cheaply constructed and which will be eflicient in service.
These and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, the pin comprises two co-axial secdrawings, wherein for the purposeof illustration is shown a preferred embodimentof my invention and wherein Figure 1 1s a sideelevatlon of a hair waving pin constructed in accordance with a my invention Figure 2 is an edge elevation thereof; Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1; A
Figure 4 is an end elevation of the pin. Referring now more particularly to the tions 10 and 11 which are integrally connected to one another. The section 10 is ovate in cross section, while the section 11 is circular and of a diameter approximately equal to the diameter of the section 10 uponits minor axis. At the junction of these sections, the section 10 is gradually reduced at 12, so that it merges into thecircular section without the formation of any abrupt shoulders or sharp corners which mi ht cause damage to the hair. At its free en indicated at 13,
i the section 10 similarly merges into an axial circular prolongation 14, which has in its end a slot15, such as is ordinarily provided for the reception of a tying thread, whereby the lock of hair which is to be wound upon the pin is secured thereto. These pins may be employed in the usual heaters of hair waving apparatus (not herein disclosed).
In the use of the device, a lockof hair, after it has been attached by a thread wound about the lock and inthe slot 15, is wound upon the sectionlO, with the exception of its extremity. This extremity is wound upon the section 11, with the result that it will be much more tightly waved than the major portion of the lock. i
A device of this character has been found to give excellent results in service and to greatly expedite the work of winding the hair, due to the fact thatlarger locks may be wound thereon. 'It will, of course, be ob- Viousthat the pin-s, as illustrated, may be a made in diii'erent sizes and the relative lengths of the sections 10 and 11 varied to suit the requirements of the user.
Since the construction hereinbefore set forth is capable of a certain range of change and modification without materially departing from the spirit of the invention, I do not limit myselfto such specific structure except as hereinafter claimed. r
I claim z.- a
1. A pin for use in hair waving apparatus comprising a body substantially ovate in cross section and having at one end a short axial extension circular in cross section, said axial extension being slotted.
2. A pin for use in hair waving apparatus comprising a body substantially ovate in crosssection and having at one end a short axial extension circular in cross section, said axial extension being slotted, the opposite end of the body having a relatively long axial extension which is likewise circular in cross section.
3. A pin for use in hair waving apparatus comprising a body substantially ovate in cross section and having at one end a short axial extension circular in cross section, said axial extension being slotted, the opposite end of the body having a relatively long axial extension which is likewise circular in cross section, said body merginginto said extension.
4. A pin for use in hair waving apparatus comprising a body substantially, ovate in cross section and having at one end a short axial extension circular in cross section, said axial extension being slotted, the opposite end of the body having a relatively long axial extension which is likewise circular in cross section, the last named axial extension having a diameter approximately the same as the thickness of the body upon its minor axis.
5. A pm for use in halr waving apparatus comprising a body substantially ovate in extension, the last named axial extension cross section and having at one end a short having a diameter approximately the same axial extension circular in cross section, said asthe thickness of the body upon its minor 1 axial extension being slotted, the opposite axis. end of the body having a relatively long {121- In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my ial extension which is likewise circular signature.
cross section, said body merging into said CHRISTEENA R. W'HITE.
