This invention relates to a hair Waver *orcrimper and has for its object to provide'a device for tlns purpose, whlch 1s simple 1n construction, so that 1t may be produced at n s I n little cost, and which w1ll be convenient and efficient 1n use.

The mvention 111 1ts preferred form 1s lmade from a single piece of spring sheet steel or other resilient material and comi prises a series or plurality of staggered or will be retained in the hair, with the fingersA inwaving or crimping positions, until released or pulled out.

Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes the body part ofthe preferred form ofthe invention kand which body part consists of two separated portions of thin spring sheet metal integral withelch of whichy are stag-V gered or intermeshing fingers 13 normally held in the position, as shown in Fig. 2, by

To bring the fingers 13 into position for inserting the waver or crimper into the hair, or for placing the hair in the waver or crimper, the separated portions of the vbody 12are forced towards eachother, as shown in` Fig. 3, by compression between the thumband lingers of the user; and as soon as the pressure is relaxed, after the lingers 413 are engaged with the hair a, ,they will spring into positions for holding the hair in waving or` crimping position between them. In' the modified `form of the invention Y shown in Figs` 5 and 6,'the crimper preferably consists of a single piece of springwire bent to form outside connectedmembers 15 and an intermediate member 16 which may be jointed by solder, at 17, to the Voutside' members where they come together at one Aend of the crimper. The free end of the member 16 normally springs upward in contact with the adjacent end of the crimper which said free end of said member 16 slightly overlaps. rlhe member-16 comprises the humped-up portion 18which may be pressed upon by the thumb of the Auserto force said member 16 into the positionshown 1n dotted lines 1n Fig. 6, to enable the hair which is to be crimped 'to be wound around it;` and when the pressure is .released the member 16l will spring back towards the body members 15 and hold the hair in crimping or waving position.

Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1.
