HAIR wAvEn on GRIMPER Filed July 3o.' 1926 Patented. Agg. A2, 1927.v
Application filed July `30, 192e. serial 110,125,963.
This invention relates to a hair Waver *orcrimper and has for its object to provide'a device for tlns purpose, whlch 1s simple 1n construction, so that 1t may be produced at n s I n little cost, and which w1ll be convenient and efficient 1n use.
The mvention 111 1ts preferred form 1s lmade from a single piece of spring sheet steel or other resilient material and comi prises a series or plurality of staggered or will be retained in the hair, with the fingersA inwaving or crimping positions, until released or pulled out.
ln .the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 is a plan view of one form of theV invention.
' Fig. 2 is an edge view vof the same vwithl the intermeshing fingersl .in normal position.- F ig. 3 is a. view similar to Fig. 2 with the separated body portions compressedto bring the fingers into position to receive` the hair. F ig. ,L1 is a cross section through the lingers when holding the hair for waving or crimping. Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate, in plan and side views, al simple modified form of the invention. i y
Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes the body part ofthe preferred form ofthe invention kand which body part consists of two separated portions of thin spring sheet metal integral withelch of whichy are stag-V gered or intermeshing fingers 13 normally held in the position, as shown in Fig. 2, by
other words, the body part 12 is so tensioned as to cause the intermeshing ngers' to spring towards each other so as normally to cross Aor intermesh, as shown in Figs. 2 and 6. The
In' the modified `form of the invention Y shown in Figs` 5 and 6,'the crimper preferably consists of a single piece of springwire bent to form outside connectedmembers 15 and an intermediate member 16 which may be jointed by solder, at 17, to the Voutside' members where they come together at one Aend of the crimper. The free end of the member 16 normally springs upward in contact with the adjacent end of the crimper which said free end of said member 16 slightly overlaps. rlhe member-16 comprises the humped-up portion 18which may be pressed upon by the thumb of the Auserto force said member 16 into the positionshown 1n dotted lines 1n Fig. 6, to enable the hair which is to be crimped 'to be wound around it;` and when the pressure is .released the member 16l will spring back towards the body members 15 and hold the hair in crimping or waving position.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A hair waver or-crimper comprising ,two setsV of intermeshing spring` members Yalternating with and normally `springing towards yeach other, and` adapted to be` forced, by pressure, into hair-engaging position, said members being staggered or dis! posed in 'dierent planes so that the members of one set will be between the memi bers of the other'set` the resilience of the body portions 12. In..
2. A hair waver or crimper consisting of other, and which maybe forced into hairengaglng positlons by compressmnon said separated portions ofsaid body part, thev 'fingers of one set being between the fingers of the otherset.
Y 3.l A hair Awaver or erimper consisting of a single piece of spring Sheet material Qomprisng a body part` having se `arat'emd portions integral with each of Whcl are Waving or crimping ngers normally Sprin ing towards and nterlneshngwvthfech off er, and which maybe forced into hair-engqgin positions by compression on sd'seprate j" portions` of safd body'palyt," fingers v one Set being @between che fingers of the other set5 sald fingers beng-crved 'or of 10 conoavo-convex form 1n cross sectlon.
