1 Claim.

This invention relates to bobby pin supports and openers and more particularly to a support and opener in the form of an article of personal apparel, such as a bracelet.

It is among the objects of the invention to pro-- vide an improved support and opener for hairpins, such as bobby pins, which can be worn on one wrist of a person using the pins and will support a number of pins where they are conveniently accessible for use, which is usable to open the pins as they are withdrawn from the support so that the pins can be withdrawn and opened by a single movement, and which is strong and durable in construction, oomfortable to wear, and neat and attractive in appearance.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the following description and the appended claim in com junction with the accompanying drawingwhere- Figure 1 is an edge elevational View of a support and opener illustrative of the invention;

Figure 4 is a top plan view of the support and opener;

Figure 5 is a bottom plan view of the support and opener; and

Figure 6 is a perspective view showing the support and. opener in operative position on a human wrist.

With continued reference to the drawing the support and opener comprises two elongated bands l0 and II of resilient material, such as spring steel, and preferably of a corrosion resisting material such as stainless spring steel.

The band I0 is longitudinally curved to fit closely about a human wrist and has its end portions arcuately recurved, as indicated at 12 and I 3, to provide separated tabs which are curved away from each other and facilitate the placing of the device on the wrist and removing it therefrom.

The band H has a length substantially the same as the length of the band I0 and is uniformly spaced from the convex side of the band I0 and is rigidly secured at its ends to the band Ill near the respectively opposite ends of the latter by the rivets l4 and I5.

The outer band H reinforces the inner band It] and assists in firmly clamping the device on the Wrist of the wearer.

While the dimensions of the two bands may be varied within practical limits Without exceeding the scope of the invention, a length of the two bands of approximately seven inches and a width of the band ID of approximately one inch and of the band ll of one and one quarter inches have been found to give excellent results in use. The band I! may be spaced from the band [0 a distance of approximately one quarter of an inch and the curvature of both bands is such that the device will firmly engage a Wrist upon which it is mounted.

In using the device, a number of bobby pins, as indicated at 16 in Figure 6, are placed on the outer band I l by inserting the hand between the two legs of each pin. The device with the pins thereon is then placed on the wrist of the person using the pins with the closed ends of the pins directed toward the hand of the user. The pins may then be grasped by the other hand at the closed ends thereof and pulled forwardly and upwardly so that they will be removed from the band II and their legs simultaneously spread apart to open the pins. The pins are then held in this open position by firmly grasping them between the thumb and a finger until they are placed in position on the hair.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which come Within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claim are, therefore, intended to be embraced therein.

What is claimed is:

A support and opener for bobby pins comprising a first elongated band of thin walled, resilient material longitudinally curved to fit about a human wrist and having spaced apart ends, and a second longitudinally curved band of thin walled resilient material uniformly spaced from the convex side of said first band and secured at its ends to said first band near the respectively opposite ends of the latter, said second hand having a width slightly greater than said first band and said first band having its end portions arcuately recurved to provide at its ends tabs curved away from each other to facilitate applying said bands to the wrist and removing them therefrom.
