Description

Sept. 18, 1928. 1,684,783
R. SPEAR EAR ORNAMENT Filed Nov. 20, 1925 Patented Sept. 18, 1928.
UNITED STATES ROY SPEAR, OF TITU$VILLE, FLORIDA.
EAR ORNAMENT.
Application filed November 20, 1925.
This invention relates to articles of ornamental design adapted to be suspended from the ears. The general object contemplate. lengths of ornamental spring wire bent upon itself in such a manner as to form a spring tension against the opposite sides of the ear lobe to support the wire as a whole.
Another object of my invention resides in the construction, arrangement and contorrioning of the respective portions of the wn'e wherein the engagino end portion of the wire fitted upon the opposite sides of the ear lobe are prevented from canting' or sliding sideways with respect to their spaced parallel relation whereby the gripping portions of the clasp will engage the ear lobe at diai'i'ietricaliy opposite sides thereof. L
A further object of my invention resides in the provision of a spring coil formed at an appropriate point in the length of the w re to pive the desired spring; tension to the gripping portion of the wire.
ll ith the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the orawinp;2
Fi rurc 1 is a perspective of my invention as 2;. led and ready for use.
l in'ure is a .iniilnr v ew illustrating the manner in which my i ventio'n maybe scparated for insertion upon an ear lobe when grasped between the index linger and thumb of a user. v
Figure 3 is a side elevation of an ear and lobe and showing my present invention applied thereto.
Referrin to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote correspending parts, the reference character in dicatcs a single length. of wire, adapted to provide a spring loop 11 at an appropriate point in the length thereof while the remaining portion of the wire- 10 extending from the opposite sides of the loop 11 thus formed extend outwardly in opposite directions thereto and are then bent upon themselves and extend inwardly one toward the other in forming; hilts or shoulders 12 and 13 respectively; the hilt or shoulder 13 forming a U-shaped kink 1 within which the inner most portion of the hilt 12 is adapted for longitudinal sliding movement therein after Serial No. 70,347.
which both of the ends thereof terminate in upwardly and outwardly curved arms 15 providing;- looped portions 16 upon free ends thereof and defining eyes 17 therebetween. One of the ends being ofiset at right angles in formi a projection 18 upon which a jewel 19 i8 htted or mounted.
In the mode of operation of the present invention, it is clearly apparent and manifest that when the clasp, is so graspedbetwecn the thumb 20 and index finger 21 of the users hand. not shown, that the looped portion 16 will be caused to be spaced apart, as clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing, and such pressure being limited by the hilt or shoulder 12 engaging the U-shaped kinks 14 formed in the shoulder or hilt 18 after which the looped portions 16 when so separated are arranged upon the opposite sides of the lobe 22 of an car 23 and released whereby the fleshy portion of the lobe 22 will bulge out and through the eyes 17 thus formed in the looped port-ions 16 and creating" a grasp upon the lobe 22 incapable of dislodging the clasp therefrom, even if the lobe 22 is wet with perspiration. dicated at 2 1 may be suspended from the clasp by a link 25 inserted within the looped portion 11.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the rightis herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what is claimed is A. pendant or ornament as in.
An ear ornament coiuprising a length of wire bent upon itself to provide a spring loop havinsr the ends thereof obliquely disposed thcrefron'r. shoulders inwardly offset from said ends above the loop, a U-shaped kink provided upon one of the ,honlders aoapted to receive the companion shoulder therein, arms projected from theextremities of the shoulders being oppositely converged to dispose the extremities thereof in juxtaposition, and the extremities of the arms being bent upon themselves to provide loop portions upon the opposite sides thereof and within which portions of ear lobes may be held incident to the resiliency afforded by the spring loop. l I
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
