UNITED STATES HIDE NAITO, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
HAIR CLIP.
Application filed June 12,
This invention relates to an improvement in a new and useful hair clip, and is especially well adapted for use upon bobbed hair and the like wherein an unobtrusive device is required for maintaining the same in desired place and position.
Additional objects of my new and improved device reside in the fact that the same is wider at its central point, or at a point midway its free ends than elsewhere thus maintaining the engaging surfaces in intimate contact when in place.
Still additional objects of my device reside in the fact that the same is of a curvature substantially that of the head of the wearer thus permitting the same to adapt itself to the said curvature.
Still additional objects of my. invention reside in the fact that one of the legs of the device is in a substantially continuous line, whereas the oppositely opposed leg is crimped into folds in such a manner that small locks of the hair may be engaged into the folds thus created and thus be maintained therein in one or more of the folds without in any way lessening the tendency of the oppositely opposed legs engaging for the full length of the same.
With these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel fea tures of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claims. and a preferred form of embodiment of which is hereinafter shown with reference to the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the clip.
.Fig. 2 is a side view of the mechanism illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of hair clips heretofore used and illustrating the defects in the same when alock of hair is engaged therein midway the ends of the clip.
F'g. 4 is a side elevation of one of my new and improved devices illustrating the same performing the same service as that being performed in Fig. 3.
Like reference characters referto like parts throughout the several views.

itself, thus forming two legs 3 and 4. Leg 3 is so formed as to fit the curvature of the head of the wearer and is therefore slightly curved and tapers uniformly from the central end to the terminus thereof, the oppositely disposed leg 4 is crimped for its entire length, thus engaging the leg 3 only at the infolding of the crimped surfaces as is illustrated at 5. I have thus formed a hair clip that will engage the lock of'hair be tween the two leg surfaces at the outfolds 6 and the legs will therefore engage each other at the point of contacts for the full length even though one or more locks of hair are engaged thereby.
This form of device is particularly well adapted for use upon the Marcel wave as well as upon bobbed and curled hair.
While the form of mechanism herein shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form of embodiment herein shown and described, as it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms, all coming within the scope of the claimswhich follow:
What I claim is:
1. A hair clip constructed of resilient material having most material central of its ends and taperlng uniformly toward either end, folded about its central position to form two legs, one of which said legs is substantially straight, the other of which is crimped to engage the oppositely opposed leg only at the infold of each crimp.
2. A hair clip of resilient material folded central of its ends and tapering uniformly from the fold to each of the terminals,.one of said legs so formed being uniformly curved to fit-the contour of the head of the wearer, andthe oppositely opposed leg being crimped for substantially its full length, the infold of each crimp-contacting with the opposite leg.
full length, the infold of each crimp contactin with the o positely opposed leg.
