This invention relates to improvements in toys, particularly figure toys, and it is the principal object of the invention to' pro vide a figure toy in which the `representation of two men, one sitting and the other standing, more particularly two comedians, upon the actuation of their limbs by any suitable operating means, spin a disc or bar suspended in a peculiar manner on a string between the ends thereof which are grasped bythe hands of the figures, first in one and then in the opposite direction, thus greatly contributing to the amusement and entertainment of young and old, particularly children. y

Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy in the whirling and oscillating motion of the disc or bar of which, producedy by an extremely simple method, a source of amusement is found, which is still augmented or increased by the eX- tremely laughter provoking `motions of the limbs of the figures produced from one common source. 4

A further object of the invention is the provision of a toy of this character which allows a faster or slower spinning` of the disc or bar. l

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a toy equipped with one common source of operation for both of the figures" holding the string intermediate their hands. y Y

These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more specifically defined in the appended claims.

On a hollow base 10, a chair 11 is mounted near one end thereof on which the representation of a man in sitting posture, designated 12, is placed having vthe arms pivotally attached, as at 13, to the body, at the ends of a transversel pin 14.

Intermediate the ends of pin 1'4 thev upper end of a lever 15, approximately .vertical, is attached, the lever 15 being pivotally secured intermediate of its ends to the chair 11 as at 16; the lower endY of ythe said lever 15 carries a r'oller 17, adapted to be engaged by a cam-dise 18 on' a transverse shaft 19 which entends at one end through the chair wall, while its opposite end is journaled therein. The extending end of shaft 19 carries a manipulating cranlr 20, and a gear 21 is mounted on' shaft 19 which meshes into a gear 22 on a transverse: shaft ,23n journaled in the base 10, which carries also a cani-disc 24 adapted to engage a roller 25 at the' end of al horizontal shaft 2O extending longitudinally through the casing 10 and journaled in hangers 27, 28 depending from the top of the casing into the same. The end of shaft 26 oppositely dis# posedl toV roller 25, is pivotally attached to the lower end of a lever 29, as at 30. A spring 31 is wound about shaft 26 between a collar 32 carried by the shaft, and the hanger 28. The lever 29 is. pivotally se cured intermediate of its ends as at33, to the lower limb part of a figure 34, which is designated 35, and is articulated, as at 36, to the upper limb part 37, and pivot pin 33 is` journaled in a support 38 attached to the base at its lower end. The lever 29 extends upwardly and' has its extreme upper end pivotally attached, as at 39, to a pin to which the arms of figure 34 are pivoted. The lower limb part of the other leg of figure 34 is pivotally attached, as at 40, to the upper limb part. To the pivot pin 39 is attached a coil spring 41 to which is secured one end of a string 42 guided through the hands of figure 34 and the other end of which is held by the hands of figure 12. Intermediate its ends the string is passed about a plate, disc or bar 42 as at 43, provided with holes 44, 45 through which a string part 46 is passed, the ends of which are wound about the string 42 in front and rear of plate 42, as at 47 and 48. The ends of string 42 are looped as shown at 49 and 50.

The operation of the device will be entirely clear from the above description, upon the operation of the crank 20, the armsof the sitting figure will receive by the intermediary of the cam plate 18 engaging roller 17 a motion in one and the other direction to draw the string l2 towards said figure or allow a slackening of the same Which then is taken up by the other of the figures under the operation of cam 24 and roller 25 moving the limbs and body of the standing figure 34 to draw at this time the string towards this figure, thus alternately spinning the plate 42 in one and the other direction.

lt Will be understood, that while I have shown and described as an example the preferred form of the invention, such changes may be made in the general arrangement thereof and in the vconstruction of its minor parts, as come Within the scope of the appended claims Without departure from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A toy comprising a base, a chair fixed upon one end of said base, a figure sitting on said chair, a` standing figure fixed upon the opposite end of said base, movable limb parts pivotally attached to said figures, a double string resiliently attached at one end to the said movable limb parts of the said standing figure, and at the other end fixed to the said movable limb parts of the said sitting figure, a disc intermediate the ends of said string, said disc being formed with a pair of substantially centrally located apertures, and said double string being guided about said disc, a fastening string passed through said apertures and having its ends wound about said double string in front and in the rear of said disc, and manually operable means Within said base for operating said figures to draw said double string alternatingly in one and the other directions to spin said disc.

A toy comprising a base, a chair fixed upon one end of said base, a figure sitting on said chair, a standing figure fixed upon the opposite end of said base, movable limb parts pivotally attached to said figures, a double string resiliently attached at one end to the said movable limb parts of the said standing ligure, and at the other end fixed to the said movable limb parts of the said sitting figure, a disc intermediate the ends of said string, said disc being formed With a pair of substantially centrally located apertures, and said double string being guided about said disc, a fastening string passed through said apertures and having its ends Wound about said double string in front and in the rear of said disc, and manually operable means Within said base for operating said figures to draw said double string alternatingly in one and the other directions to spin said disc, said means comprising levers pivoted intermediate their ends to stationary parts, the upper ends of said levers being attached to said figures, cam operated means connected to the lower ends of said levers, and manual means to operate said cam means.

3. A toy comprising a base, a chair upon one end of said base, a representation of a man sitting on said chair, a figure representing aman standing at the opposite end of said base, movable limb parts pivotally attached to said figures, and a common operating means for the limbs of both figures, a string resiliently attached to one of said figures and guided through the hand thereof and attached to the hands of the other figure, a disc intermediate the ends of said string about which said string is guided and having openings, a fastening string passed through the openings of said disc and having its ends Wound about said string in front and in rear of said disc, and means Within said base for operating said figures to draw said string alternatingly in one and the other direction to spin said disc.
