Description

W. A. P. LA GRQVE.
Autnmatis Tuy Dancers,
Patented September 23,1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. P. LA GROVE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIM- SELF, CHARLES OKEMP, OF SAME PLACE, AND HENRY H. WEBB, OF
NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN AUTOMATIC TOY DANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,082, dated September 23, 1873; application filed April 1, 1873.
' which a vertical movement is given by a crank to dance the figure up and down and communicate grotesque movements toV the jointed limbs. The action is increased from the wire being of a flexible or springing character; and there is also a slight rotary movement by the connecting-rod from the crank tending to turn the wire as the said connecting-rod swings from one side t0 the other.
In the drawing, Figure l is a vertical section of the base upon which the figure stands, showing such ligure and the actuating mechanism 5 and Fig. 2 is a detached view of the crank and connecting-rod.
The base a is of suitable size and, shape, and made more or less ornamental. Vithin the base is a spring, b, and train of gearing to the regulating-ily c and crank c. From the crank e a connecting-rod, d, passes to a pin, that extends to the vertical spring-wire h, that slides through the guides e' i as said wire h and the ligure l, that is carried at its upper end, are danced up and down by the movement of the crank e. The joint between the rod d and the spring-wire h is not very closely fitted, and the swinging of the link d and the action ot' the crank thereupon will tendto give a slight rotary movement-first one way and then the other-to the rod d and figure l. This figure l is of any desired character; and the limbs are jointed, so that they `swing and move in the dancing operation.
More than one figure may be connected with the wire h,- and, if desired, a music-box may be used in the base.
I claim as my nvention- In combination with the jointed dancing gure, the vertical wire h, reciprocated in the guides t' by the connecting-rod d, crank e, shaft, and gearing, substantially as described.
Signed by lne this 27th day 0f March, A. D. 1873.
W. A. P. LA GROVE.
