To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, hLlYRTLE E. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atchison, in the county of ritchison and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a combined dress and apron, the apron corresponding in style with the dress to which it is applied, and constituting a part thereof in the sense that it adds certain distinctive and attractive features, and changes the appearance of the garment, which however is complete in itself from a practical standpoint and as a house dress of pleasing appearance.

A further object is to provide particular means for supporting the apron in such manner that this element is virtually incorporated into the garment, when properly applied, but is almost instantly detachable therefrom.

With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel features involved in the manufacture of the garment described, illustrated and claimed, it being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the dress, with the apron connected therewith, in the manner in which the complete garment is to be worn; Figure 2 shows the apron detached; Figure 3 is a front view of the dress without the apron; Figure l is a detail view showing the position of complementary members of a fastener, on the belt of the apron and on the under side of one of the shoulder straps.

The one-piece garment illustrated includes a bodice 10, short sleeves 11 and 12, and a skirt portion 13. Ornamental sleeve straps are shown at 14 and 15, and similar straps 16 and 17 extend from the shoulder seams downwardly, to points 18 and 19, near the 5 of the bodice per se, but they also serve a Serial No. 686,343.

practical purpose in aiding in the support of the apron mentioned below. At 20 and 21 snap fasteners are provided for connection with the yoke portion The skirt portion is provided with pockets 23, 24, and with side loops 25, 2G, or other suitable means for supporting belt 27 adapted to pa s entirely around the waist of the x earer, the belt being of material corresponding with other portions of the garment.

The apron includes a main portion 30 having pockets 31, 32, secured thereto, this portion 30 having a wide lower border which may be of uniform width, and having connected with its upper portion border or partial waist-belt '33, wider at the central portion than elsewhere and formed as shown. Vertical slits or openings 34, 35, at the ends of portion 33 permit the belt 27 to pass therethrough and across the front of the apron, passing thence through loops 25, 26 if desired, and entirely around the waist, as before.

Snap fasteners 37, 38 on the under side of straps 16 and 17, and their con elementary member 37, 38 on the front of element 33 permit of further securing the apron in such manner that it constitutes definite part of the garment, from an ornamental and practical standpoint. Buttons or other ornamental devices may be added where desired.

What I claim is:

In a garment, a bodice and a skirt portion, a belt and looped means for supporting the belt with reference to the waist portion of the garment, a detachable element constituting an apron and including a wide upper strip having openings formed in the ends of the strip and at the side of the apron, permitting the belt to secure the apron in part by passing through the openings and the loops of the waist portion, and shoulderstraps forming a part of the bodice and de- 95 tachably connected with the wide upper strip of the apron.
