To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IVIARY LOUISE Lanes, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Combination Cribs and Beds, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a combination crib and bed adapted for use in nurseries in the care of infants, and it has for its primary object the production of a combination crib and bed and dressing device upon which and within which an infant is adapted to be retained during the time that it is being dressed and bathed, the device being also adaptable to retaining the infant during a period of slumber as well as during:- the time of play or recreation, and the invention includes a toy holding device within convenient reach of the infant when retained within the crib or bed portion thereof.

It is a further object of the invention to produce an improved form of infants bed in which the infant may be retained and conveniently bathed or after bathing and dressing be retained during a period of slumber or play. It is a further object of the invention to produce an improved form of infants bed in which a portion of the retaining side wall of the bed or crib adjacent means for supporting toilet articles is removable or detachable for purposes of convenience and accessibility.

It is a further object of the invention to provide in a combination bath and sleeping bed for infants improved means for retaining soiled clothes, as well as a removable or portable receptacle for containing soiled articles of clothing.

It is a further object of the invention to provide in a babys combination bath bed and sleepingbed improved means for retaining the infant therein in combination with improved means for holding within convenient reach of the infant suitable toys for use of the infant during play.-

It is a further object of the invention to provide in a combination bath and sleeping bed for infants an improved false slidable drawer adapted to be used as a shelf for supporting a vessel for containing liquid to be used in bathing a child.

It is a further object of the invention to provide in a structure of the described character in combination with a crib for the retention of the child of a slidable drawer built into the bottom portion of the retaining crib to furnish a convenient means for containing toilet articles.

It is a further object ofthe invention to provide in a combination bath bed and sleeping bed for an infant of improved means for supporting toys within convenient reach of child contained within the crib portion thereof, a second crib portion below the first said crib portion adapted for the reception and retention of articles of clothing, in combination with means for portably supporting the said crib as a unitary structure.

Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description which is directed to the preferred embodiment of the invention, and as also shown in the accompanyingdrawing forming a part of the specification.

In the said drawing the figure shows a perspective view of my improved combination bed. and crib in which A designates the movable sleeping, recreation and bath compartment, and B a receptacle or catch all for soiled clothes, toys and the like.

It will be understood that the crib or bed may be made of wood, steel, brass or any other material commonly used in ordinary beds, and is preferably rectangular in form.

The top section A which is a combined bed and dressing cabinetis comprised of a bottom part" 10, upon which bedding may be placed, and is surrounded by the elevated rails 11 which are supported upon a plurality of legs or pegs 11 arranged parallel to each other and short distance apart forming a retainer or fence to keep the child. from falling' from the bed. I prefer to construct the part A so that a portion of the fence or rail as for example the rectangular side frame as indicated at 11 may be detached when it is desired to remove the infant from the crib or bed. The removal of the section of the side rails as at 11" adjacentthe bowl or basin and other toilet supporting devices as hereinafter described is also one of the important features of my invention.

At the head of the bed I secure a vertical bracket 12 having the lateral arm 13 attached thereto, from which toys may be suspended for the amusement of the child.

The top portion of th crib or bed A or any other suitabl material may obvi-- ously be used. lVhen the side rail or section of the enclosure of the crib proper as at 11 is made removable as shown adjacent the drawers l5 and 16 and particularly when the child is supported on a mattress placed upon the bottom 10 of the crib it will bev seen that any portion of the body of the child may be brought quickly and with little effort to a position contiguous with or adjacent to the bowl for convenience in bathing, and furthermore in bathing the extremities of the child as the head or the feet with an ordinary mattress in position in the crib it will be seen that the top surface of such mattress will be approximately in the same plane as the upper level of the bowl making accessibility by merely sliding the body of the child toward the bowl quite complete and convenient.

The posts 20, 21, 22 and 23 not only serve as'a support for the base 14 but also serve as a frame for the lower portion 13 of the device and have attached to their lower ends castors or wheels 24 which provide a means by which the person caring for the child can readily Wheel or move the bed from one room to aonther or from one part of a room to another.

The portion B which is constructed similar to the crib portion A having a solid bottom plate 26 and surrounded by rails 27 supported by a plurality of legs or pegs 28 arranged a short distance apart as in the case of the legs or pegs 11 of the top portion A, is joined to the posts 20, 21, 22 and 23 at 29. It will be seen that the legs or pegs 20, 21 22 and 23 extend adjacent and a short distance below the bottom plate 26 to rails 30, which like the rails 27 are joined to posts 20, 21, 22 and 23 at 31, thus adding much to the appearance and strength of the lower supporting part B.

This crib portion B forms a convenient means for containing soiled clothes during the time of bathing and dressing the child and also as convenient place for keeping the childs toys when not in use. In this portion B I provide a basket which may also be used for containing soiled articles of clothing.

It will be seen that by my improved crib or bed Iain enabled to provide a means in which a mother or other person caring for a child may place same during its bath,

slumber or play period and at the same time save tim and energy by providing means by which all articles necessary in the care of the child will be within convenient reach of the person in charge.

I also prefer to construct the bed part of the device A so that there will be sockets, as indicated in dotted lines and indicated by reference character adapted to receive the upper ends of the posts 20, 21, 22 and 28, thereby providing means for detachably supporting the bed and dresser part A. This construction enables me to manufacture and sell the part A as a sepafate device for the user to support in any desired manner as upon an ordinary table, if it is not desired to purchase or supply the lower part B.

I claim:

A crib having; a supporting section, a bed section having a base and detachably supported by the supporting sect-ion, a rail surrounding the bed section, a portion of said rail being removable, and drawers carried by said base and adjacent the removable portion of the rail.
