LUTHER s. WRIGHT, 0E GROTON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAST-BLOCK. FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,275, dated March 3, 1874; application filed January 24, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, LUTHER S. WRIGHT, of Groton, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented a new and Valuable Improvement in Last-Block Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had'to the annexed drawings mak I ing a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a top view of my last-block fastening. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same.
This invention has relation to fasteners for last-blocks; and it consists in the employment of a loop or eye 011 the body of the last, in combination with a removable retaining-pin, applied into the end of the last-block, whereby a substantial fastening is obtained at a very small expense, as will be hereinafter explained.
The following is a description of my improvement In the annexed drawings, A represents the body of a last, which is cut away on top, in the usual manner, to receive the lastblock B. This block B, which is removable, is of the usual well-known shape, and into its bottom side a recess, a, is made, which tapers downward toward the smaller or toe end of this block, which end is held in place by one or more fixed pins, 1). The recess a is intended for receiving a loop or eye, 0, which is fixed into the body A of the last, and through which a removable pin, g, is passed, for securing the upper end of the block B to the body This pin g has a head on it, bywhich it may be readily grasped for removal or insertion, and it is inserted into a hole made into the upper or larger end of the block B.
The fastening, thus constructed and applied,
is applicable, at a small "expense, to lasts and last-blocks which are in common use.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The last-block Iastening consisting of the loop or eye 0, the removable pin 9, the re ccss a in the block B, for receiving the said v loop or eye, and the )in-fastening. I), combined substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses: LUTHER S. WRIGHT.
It. HOLLAND DUELL, GIDEoN WRIGHT.
