Description

G. T. FISHER. Heel-Support.
No. 204,552. Patented June 4,1878.
*7 lNvENToR w W ,r i hd ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUYON T. FISHER, OF FOWLERVILLE, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEEL-SUPPORTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,552, dated June 4, 1878; application filed April 27, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUYo T. FISHER, of Fowlerville, in the county of ivingston and State of Michigan, have inve ed a new and valuable Improvement in Heel Stiffeners and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a rear view of my heel-stiffener; and Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a rear view of a shoe or boot with my device applied.
This invention is designed as an improvement on the metallic stifi'ener shown in Letters Patent granted to Barsaloux, James, and Lyon, dated July 9, 1872, No. 128,843; and the novelty consists in slotting the shank, so that the stiffener can be adjusted as the heel wears down, and the perforated inclined flange extending under the heel forming a wearingplate, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
A represents the body or main part of the heel-stiifening plate, made of the enlarged oval form, as shown, and provided with a central shank, B, extending downward, as shown, and having a longitudinal slot, b. At the bottom of the shank B is an inwardly projecting flange, C, which stands inward at a little less than a right angle. This flange overlaps on the bottom of the heel and is fastened by the usual heel-nails, and when thus fastened it throws the plate inward, as shown, the plate being then secured by a screw through the slot 1). The usual heel-stiffener is fastened to the side of the heel by screws passed through holes in the plate for that purpose.
In my invention the slot b admits of the screw being put in anywhere in the heel, so as not to go between the lifts of the heel, which would prevent the screw from taking hold. The inclined flange G clasps over the bottom of the heel and throws the stifiener inward to the concave of the heel.
It will be observed, by reference to Fig. 3 of the drawings, that as the heel wears away the stiffener can be adjusted without detaching the same.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A As an improved article of manufacture, the heel-stiffener herein described, consisting of the plate A, shank B, having elongated slot 12, and the perforated inclined bottom flange O, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
GUYON T. FISHER.
