- VANITY CASE.
Continuation of application Serial No; 454,591, filed'March 22, 1921. This application filed February 20,
" 1922 .SeriaINo. 537,995.
T 0 all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. KEND LL, a citizen'of-th'e United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county ofEsseX and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Vanity Case, of which the follow-1 ing is full, clear, and exact description. 1
This invention relates to vanity cases of the general character described in my application for Letters Patent of. the United thates, Serial Number 452,612, filed by me on March 15th,'1921. The'present application is filed as a continuation of. application Serial No. 454,591, filed on March 22nd, 1921, and abandoned on even date herewith. An object of the presentinvention is to provide a vanity case having a removable bottom plate and to provide novel means whereby the bottom plate automatically locks itself within the case upon its insertion.
A; furtherobject of theinvention is toprovide certain new and useful improvements in vanity cases whereby the interior of the case body is divided into two compartments for accommodating ditlerent cosmetics such,-for,
instance, rouge and compact face powder.
Another object is to provide a partition which can be quickly placed in position in an ordinary vanity case body such as now generally usedand which partition is constructed and arranged to hold securely the different cosmetics inplace and to permit the user to replace the cosmetics without discarding the case or partition.
Another object is to hold the partition se-' cu rely in the case body.
With these and. other objectsin view, the
invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims. I
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indi- Cate corresponding parts in all the views;
Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved vanity case with the cover in open position d with a portion of the case body shown in section and a portion of the cover broken out;
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the same on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a perspective View of the-combined cosmetic holder and partition; and
Figure 4 is a similarview of a modified form of the same. I
The body 10 of a vanity case is provided at its upper edge with an inwardly bent rim 11 accommodating two porcelain disks or similar cosmetic carriers 17 supporting different cosmetics 18, for instance, rouge on one and compact face powder on the other. The cosmetic carriers 17 rest on the bottom plates 15 and'are engaged at their edges by spring tongues 20 struck, up from the bottom plates 7 15 to hold securelythe cosmetic carriers in position on the plates 15.
Each of the bottom plates is provided at its outer edge with a struck-uplug 21 extending under the rim or ledge 11 thus holding the outer ends of the bottom plates 15 against upward movement, it being understood that when the bottom plates 15 are placed in the case body 10 the lugs 21 spring under the rim or ledge 11, as shown in Figure 2; The front and the back of the case body 10 are provided with inwardly extending dents or lugs 22, 23 a short distance above the bottom 14 to extend over the top of the bottom plates 15 adjacent the front in Figures 1, 2 and 8, it may be made of a single piece of sheet material, as shown in Figure 4, it being understood that in this case the upper end of the two walls 16 are united. It will also be noticed by comparison of Figures 3 and t that the number of spring tongues may be varied for each plate 15: for instance, as shown in Figure 3, four spring tongues are provided while in the construction disclosed in Figure t but three spring tongues are used to hold a cosmetic carrier 17 in position on the bottom plate 15.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the combined cosmetic holder and partition can be readily placed in the vanity case body 10 of usual construction with the dents 22 and 23 being sprung over the bottom plates 15 and the lugs 21 being sprung under the rim or-ledge 11 of the case body. The'rear upper edges of the partition walls are preferably cut out as indicated at 25 to fit under the inner portion of the hinge 13 thus providing an additional means for holding the bottom plates 15 in place in the case body. and partition is placed in the case body the cosmetic carrying disks 1? can be readily placed'in position and held in place by the spring tongues 20 with the disks resting on the bottom plates 15. It will also be. noticed that glue, cement or similar adhesive materials are not required for fastening the cosmetic carrying disks in position in the case body 10.
' It will further be noticed that my present invention is distinguished from the one disclosed in my copending application above referred to by the use of the combined co nietic holder and partition having bottom After the combined cosmetic holder plates provided with struck-up spring tongues. Furthermore, the bottom plates are provided with struck-up lugs 21 extending under the rim of the case body 10 to aid in holding the combined cosmetic holder and partition in place in the case body.
I claim:
1, In vanity case, a combined cosmetic holder and partition inserta-ble in the vanity case comprising bottom plates having upwardly extending transverse wall members forming a transverse partition dividing the case into two compartments, spring tongues struck up from the said bottom plates and adapted to engage the cosmetic carriers adapted to rest on the said bottom plates, and retaining lugs struck up from the bottom plates and adapted to extend under the rim of the vanity case body.
2. In a Vanity case, a case body having inwardly bent rim at the top and having at the front and rear inwardly extending dents spaced from the bottom of the case body, bottom plates resting on the bottom of the case body and adapted to support cosmetic carriers, the said dents carrying the said bottom plates, transverse partition members rising from the said plates and diriding tie case body into two compartments, spring tongues struck up from the bottom plates and adapted to engage the peripheral edges of the said cosmetic carriers, and lugs struck up from the said bottom plates and extending under the said rim.
