HUBER'R. BRADY, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
COLLAPSIBLE TABLE.
Aoulication filed December 27, 1920. Serial No. 433,221.
T 0 all whom '52- may concern:
Be it known that I, HUBER R. BRADY,
clare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.
The objects of'the invention are to provide an improved and simple form of construction for a folding table, in which the frame, legs, and'cover can be expanded to form arigid structure, suitable for use as a card or picnic table, or at will can be collapsed and made to enter a. small and narrow bag, easily transported and capable of being stored in a small space.
The invention comprises a rectangular frame. the members or rails of which are pivoted together at different levels by vertical pins or bolts, and legs which are pivoted one to each rail at the same end thereof, and fold parallel with their respectiverails and closely against the same.
Bracing means are also employed to se cure the legs in a vertical position, and re-' cesses are formed in the legs or provided for between the legs and side rails, in which the bracing means are concealed when the parts are folded together.
The cover or top of the table is also formed of folding slats which may be connected together by means of flexible material, and the corners are detachably secured to the corners of the frames, the slats may fit into recesses in the side rails.
The invention is hereinafter further described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the claims. s
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 i a plan of the device; Fig. 2- is side elevation thereof; Fig. 3 is a perspective of the unfolded table; Fig. 4. is an enlarged elevation of one corner; Fig. 5 is a plan of the folded table; Fig. 5 shows the same partly folded; Fig. 6 is an enlarged view of one edge of Fig; 5; Fig. 7 is an end view of Fig. 6; Fig. 8 is a perspective of the joint on one then be folded of the leg braces; F ig.9 is a side elevation of a modified form of top.
In these views, A, A, are four horizontal rails, pivoted together at B, B, over which a folding top composed of slats, C, C, flexibly connected together by means of fabric strips, D, D, is stretched. This top is secured at the corners by means of buttons, E, upon the rails, and eyelets, F, F, or analogous means. in the preferred form, shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In Fig. 9, the side rails are formed with a sunken shoulder, G, and the slats, G, which compose the top, are merely set there in. Dowel pins G securethe slats in place. H, H, are the legs, which are pivoted at I, to the ends of alternate rails, one leg only to each rail. The pivots are horizontal so that the legs, H. will fold closely against the rails, A, A, and jointed brace bars, J, J, are pivoted to the legs and the ad'acent rails, and are provided with keepers, i, K, which are provided with shoulders,'K. K, which overlap the ointed parts and prevent them from passing the rigid position when they are in alignment with each other. Recesses, L, L, are formed in the legs, in which the'folded braces areentirely enclosed, when the legs are folded against the rails.
When all the legs are folded in place 7 against their respective rails, one pivot pin, as F, is removed from the rails and the can together as shown in figs. 5, 5 and 6.
Having described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a folding table, upper and lower side rails, pivoted together at their extremities and foldable together, side by side, one of said pivots beingv removable to permit such operation, a leg pivoted to each rail atone end thereof, said legs being positioned at the corresponding ends of alternate rails and folding braces for said legs, said braces pivotally attached to said legs and to said rails, said legs provided with recesses in which said braces are enclosed when said legs are folded against said rails.
2. In a folding'table, upper and lower side rails, pivoted together at their extremities and foldable together, side by side, one
legs are folded against said rails, andkeepers of said pivots being removable to permit keepers provided with shoulders limiting such operatiorn a leg pivoted to each rail at the movements of the folding parts of said one end thereof, said legs being positioned braces.
at the corresponding ends of alternate rails; In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my I and folding braces for said legs. said braces hand this l5thday of September, 1920.
pivotally attached to said legs and to said rails, said legs provlded with recesses m which said braces are enclosed when said HUBER BRADY. In presence of- WiVr. M.- Mormon,
upon the folding joints of said braces, said CHAs. F. SIPE.
