To all whom miay concern a Be it known that I, ANNA BROHM N Grue- BIE, a citizen of the Unlted States, an a restdent of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey,.have invented a new -and Improved Garment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to-a combined dress and bloomers, and its object is to provide a new and improved garment more especially designed for childrens wear and arranged to permit of quickly and conveniently don- .ning the garment or removing-it from the body of the'wearer.

Another object is to insure the utmost comfort tothe wearer and to provide a fine ap earance of the garment. a

nother object is to provide a desired convenience for sanitary purposes without requiring opening up or removal of the body of the garment.

Another object is to allow of making the garment of comparatively few pieces thus reducing the cost of manufacture to a minimum.

With these and other objects in view, the

The garment in its general construction comprises a dress 10 and bloomers 11, of which the dress 10 is preferably closed at the front and provided at the median line of the back withthe usual opening and closing flaps 12 to allow of conveniently donning or removing the garment. The body 15 of the dress 10 is provided with a yoke 16 ossnceo semester.

a sash or belt 18 fixed at the front of the dress and adapted to be tied into a bow 19 at the back of the dress across the closing flaps 12, as plainly shown in Figure 2. The dress may also be trimmed more or less elaborately to provide a more or less expensive garment. The bloomers .11 consist essentially of a body 20, legs '21 and a sanitary fla 22 at the back of the body 20.

n the manufacture of the garment, the body 15 of the dress and the bloomers 11 are made of a front piece 25 and a back piece 26, the two pieces being sewed together along the side edges 27, 28 and the bottom edges 29, 30 with the exception of the portions 31 and 32 forming the legs 21 (see Figures 4 and 5). The two pieces 25 and 26 after being fastened together have a portion doubled up inwardly and upwardly (see Figure 3) to provide a wide hem 40 at the lower end'of the dress. A circumferential row of stitches 41 connect the doubled-up portions with each other at the upper end to define the hem 40 and at the same time attach the upper portion of the body 20 of the bloomers circumferentially to the miles surface-of the body 15 of the dress 10. It will be noticed that by this arrangement the desired fullness is given to the body 20 of the bloomer to provide the utmost comfort to the wearer and hence complete freedom in the movement of the wearers legs is obtained.

The sanitary flap 20 forms an integral part of the back piece 26 and for this purpose the back piece 26 is cut horizontally along a line 45 and vertically along lines &6 extending downward from the ends of the line 45. This line 45 is intersected by the opening or cut 47 for the opening and closing flaps 12 previously mentioned. It will be noticed that by the arrangement described a sanitary opening is formed at the back piece 26 and this opening is intersected by the opening 47 for the opening and closing flaps 12. It will also be noticed that this sanitary opening is below the circumferential row of stitches 4:1 and the hem 40 is of sufficient height to overlie the sanitary flap 22 when. the garment is worn and hence the sanitary flap 22 is normally not visible. The usual fastening devices, such as buttons and button holes 50 and 51 are provided for holding the sanitary flap 22 in closed position, the buttons extending along the body 20 directly below the row of stitches 41, and the buttonholes 51 being located at the upper end of the sanitary flap 22. It will be noticed that by this arrangement the sanitary flap 22 forms an integral part of the back piece 26 and adds comparatively little to the expense of manufacturing the garment The lower edges of the legs 21 are preferably provided with suitable trimmings 55 to enhance the appearance of the garment.

Ordinarily the sanitary flap 22 is held in closed position by the buttons 50 and but tonholes 51, and in donning orremoving the garment it is only necessary to open the flaps 12. When the garment is worn, the

sanitary flap 22 can be readily unfastened and swung downward without, however, requiring opening of the flaps 12.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent:

1. A garment comprising a dress closed at the front and provided at the back along the median line with opening and closing flaps for opening and closing the back, bloomers forming an integral part of the dress and permanently attached circumferentially to the inner surface of the dress intermediate the waist line and the lower edge thereof, said bloomers being provided at the back with a sanitary opening and drop flap below the said circumferential line of attachment, said opening and closing flaps extending to said sanitary opening, and the free upper edge of said flap concealing the lower united ends of said opening and closing flaps.

2. A garment, comprising a dress and bloomers, the dress being closed at the front and provided along the median line of the back with opening and 'closing flaps for opening and closin the back, the bloomers having a body an legs, the body of the dress and bloomers being made of a front piece and a back piece fastened together along the sides and the bottom except at the bloomer legs, the said front and back pieces being doubled up, and a row of stitches connecting the upper portion of the doubled-up parts with each other to form a hem at the lower portion. of the dress, the

said row of stitches permanently attaching the upper portion of the body of the bloomers to the top edge of the hem, the said back piece being provided" at the body of the bloomers with a sanitary opening and an integral sanitary drop flap for closing the said opening, and closing devices for closing the sanitary flap immediately below the said row of stitches, the opening of the back of the dress intersecting the drop flapopening at the back of the bloomer body.
