IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-TOPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,305, dated January 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN S. AOKLEY and DAVID S. RANNEY, of Modus, in the county of Middlesex and in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Toppers and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in a device for topping tobacco, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed-drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of our tobaccotopper in position on the thumb, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
A represents a cot or stall, made of rubber or other elastic material to be placed on the thumb. The cot is provided with an opening, (1,011 the upper side for the knuckle of the thumb, and its interior is provided witha suitable lining, b. Between this and the stall or cot is inserted the inner end of a knife-blade, B, the outer end of which points downward, and may be convex, as shown, or concave or square, as may be deemed most desirable for the purpose for which it is intended.
With this instrument the tobacco-plan ts may be topped with great ease and rapidity, and more perfectly than by the usual mode of doing the same.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the elastic cot or stall A and the knife-blade B, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
