lIMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-COVER LIFTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,740, dated July 23, 1872.

Be it known that I, LLEWELLYN D. L0- Tnaor, of Dover, of the county of Stratford, of the State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and usefulA Stove-Cover Lifter; and do -hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawing, of which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a top view. i

The shank A of the article, besides terminating in a curved toe, B, has extended from it, in manner as shown, a hook, C, and the said shank is-slotted lengthwise, in manner as shown at D. The shank may be fixed to either a Wooden or metallic handle, E. Furthermore, theshank, at its junction with the toe B and hook C, is recessed, as shown at a, in `order to form a bearing or heel, b, all being formed andarranged in manner as represented. The

`curved hook (l, arranged with the shank in the way exhibited in the drawing, enables the implement to be hooked upon the edge of a dish or kettle for the purpose of removing such dish or kettlefrom a range or stove. The slot in theshank enables the implement to be applied to the head or handle of a stove-damper for the purpose of turning the same as occasion may require. The heel serves as a bearing for or support for the implement when the toe is within the recess of a cover.

I make no claim to a stove-cover lifter constructed as shown in the United States patent No. 94,794, dated September 14, 1869, and granted to Sylvenus Walker. My arrangement and construction of the parts of my cover-lifter render it simpler, and capable of beingused to turn the iiat head of a stovedarnper, which is not the case with the said.

Walkers lifter, through which there is a square hole to ft the prismatic bend of a grate. Furthermore, the shank of my lifter, at its juncf tion with the toe B and the hook C, is notched, as shown at a, in order to form a bearing or heel, b, there being nothing of the kind in the said Walkers lifter. In my lifter the hook or prong C is arranged directly over the notch a and between the toe B and the Vslotted shank A, all as shown, such being an arrangement of parts different from any shown in the said patent.

I therefore claim- The toe B, prong C, shank or heel recess a, and the shank A and elongated slot l), arranged and constructed asshown and described.
