HORATIO G. W'ESEIE, OF HARRISVILLiE, RHODE ISLAND.
rIcKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct'. 29, 1918.
Application filed December 1, 1917. Serial No. 204,893.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORATIO Gr. WEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisville, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pickers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in loom pickers, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this character with the parts thereof subject to wear removably held to the body of the picker whereby they may be easily replaced when worn.
Another object of the invention relates to the peculiar means for holding such parts in place.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efiicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.
As shown in these drawings 1 indicates the body of the picker which may be formed of any suitable material. At its top said body is provided with the longitudinal groove 2 which is adapted to receive the tube 3 which is removably held in the groove by means of the encircling straps 4 having their lower ends suitably connected with the body and having their upper portions connected together by the strip 5. As shown the tube is provided with the grooves 2 to receive said strips and when desired the strips may be secured to the tube by means of the screws 6. As will be understood the tube receives the guidin 'rod 7. At the lower end said body is provide with a socket 8, the outer part of Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the which is formed of the strip 9 which is suitably secured to the body. This socket receives the plug 10. Thisplugmaybeheld in thesockct by means of the groove 11 therein receiving the bent-down edge of the strip. At the point where the picker is engaged by the stick I form a socket or recess 12 which is to receive the metal piece 13 which is suitably held in the recess by screws or the like.
The strips may be made of any suitable material such as spring steel. As is well known the picker is pushed forward on the supporting rod which extends through the tube by a picker stick and is pulled back by a strap fastened to the picker and stick. The plug engages with the shuttle to push the same from the shuttle box and the picker stick engages with the metal piece 13, thus it will be seen that the parts that are subject to wear may be replaced by new ones and by the use of the metal piece 13 the part of the picker stick coming in contact therewith may be reinforced with metal so as to prevent wear of the stick.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A picker comprising a body part having a socket at one end, and a groove at its other end, a tube, means for removably holding the tube in the groove, a plug, means for removably holding the plug in the socket, and a stick engaging part removably secured to the body.
2. A picker comprising a body part having a socket at one end and a groove at the other end, a tube engaging said groove, said body and tube having reduced portions therein, a strap of substantially U-shape in cross section embracing the tube and seated in said reduced portions, means for securing the ends of the strap to the body, a plug having a slot therein and a metal strip secured to the body socket and having its edge turned over to engage the groove of the plug to hold the same in the socket.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
