JAMES It. FINLEY AND LEWIS MARTIN, OF DELPHI, INDIANA.
lMPROVEMENT IN BEDSTEAD-FASTENINGS.
SPECIFICATION. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatrwe, J. R. FINLEY and L. MARTIN, 'ot' Delphi, in the county ofV Carroll and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedstead- Fastenin gs and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters 'of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bed-joint,7 as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled inthe art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view 5 and Fig. 2, a bottom View ot' mybed-joint.
A represents the bed-post; and B, the side of the bed. The joint which fastens the post A and side B together is composed of two parts, C and D, made of cast-iron or other suitable material. The casting C is in the shape of a rectangular block, having near each cnd on one side a tongue, a, projecting across the block. The outer edges of the tongues a a are enlarged and rounded, as shown, and in the inner side of the post A are made corresponding grooves, into which said tongues are inserted, the enlarged ends of the tongues holding the block iirmly to the post. Through the block or casting (l is a vertical groove, I), corresponding in its cross-section with the shape ofthe tongues a or of the grooves in the post A, said groove b extending from the upper end downward to near the lower end, and
opening on the side of the casting opposite to that on which the tongues a a are situated. The part D consists of a cast-plate provided with tongues a c, similar to those on the casting C, and placed in corresponding grooves running vertically upward from the under side of the side piece B. The outer edge of the plate or casting D 'is provided with an enlargement or swell, as shown, having a vertical ton gue, d, of the same shape as the tongues a a, and of such size as to tit in the groove b on the casting C. The two parts or castings C and D, being inserted in the grooves on the post A and side B, respectively, the tongue d on the casting D is placed from above into the groove b on the casting D, thus securing the two parts lirmly together. By this means the joint is readily fastened and uni'astened, and the two parts of the joint easily inserted or removed from their respective places on the postof two witnesses.
