To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK O. ANDREAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Toy Cane, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an amusement device and especially to a toy cane, an object of this invention being to provide a novel and interesting device that will afford an enjoyable pastime.

My invention consists of the features and details described in the subjoined specification in connection with the accompanying drawing, and then more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring in detail to the drawing, my invention comprises a flexible rod or cane 1, consisting of a single strand 2, of wire, bent upon itself to form two strands that are intertwisted to form a" spiral runway for a member 3, hereafter described. Near the bottom of the cane or red, the strands are left untwisted and expanded outwardly, as

shown at l, to provide a stop for said member 3 and limit its downward move ment. The member 3 consists of disk of light material, having a central opening 5, through which the rod or cane passes. On said disk is a plate 6, preferably of metal, having an oblong opening 7, conforming generally to the peripheral shape of the strands, whereby movement of said member along said runway causes same to rotate. At equal distances on the periphery of said disk, is a plurality of staples 8, for loosely supporting a plurality of planes 9. These staples S are disposed at an angle to the horizontal whereby to cause the planes to occupy a position at an angle to the horizontal when swung outwardly by centrifugal force. In this manner the disk is lifted upwardly on the runway by the reaction of the planes on the air. Each plane is formed with a tongue 10 for convenient attachment Specification of Letters Patent.

On the upper end of said cane or rod is a hollow handle 11, on which is fitted a cap 12, having an oblong opening conforming to the shape of the strands and arranged to give rotatory motion to said member 3, when said handle 11 is depressed. The rod or cane may be provided with any suitable means, as at 13, to prevent dissociation of the handle therefrom.

In practice, the end of the cane is placed on a solid base, and the handle depressed, causing the rod or cane to rotate rapidly and with it also the member 3, the planes 9 of which, being forced outwardly, *ausing the member to travel upwardly on the runway, the distance of travel being determined by the speed of the depression of the handle.

lVhat I claim, is

l. A toy comprising a twisted rod having a stop, a member on said rod normally resting against said stop, and provided with a plurality of swinging planes, and means to rotate said rod to cause said planes to swing outwardly and carry said member up wardly on said rod.

2. A toy comprising a cane formed of a single strand of wire bent upon itself to form two strands that are twisted together, and having an expanded portion forming a stop, a member on said rod having a plurality of swinging planes, and a handle to rotate said rod and cause said member to travel upwardly on said rod.

3. A toy comprising a flexible rod formed of a single strand of wire bent upon itself to form two strands that are intertwisted, and ha vin g an intermediate expanded portion forming a stop, a disk on said rod, a plurality of planes loosely attached to said disk, a handle attached to said rod depressible to rotate said rod and the disk thereon, whereby to cause said planes to swing outwardly and carry said disk upwardly on said rod, and means to hold said handle against dissociation from said rod.
