Description
"UNITED srnrus PATENT unieron THIEBGRE A. SUNDAL, 0F TABEB., ALBERTA, "AISTJIDJ..
MLLGIN-IND'IATOR FOR TYPE-WRITERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
.application filed March 6, 1915, Serial No. 12,69.
the ob`ects of the invention are to facilitate in determining tile dept-l1 ci the bottom margin, to rend-er the indicator collapsible thereby occupyi g minimum of space, to adapt tlie indicator for use on any typewriter at present in use and other objects which will be .made clear here er, and it consists essentially oi. the improved construction of indicator particulariy described in detail in the following specification and accompanydrawingsiforining part ont the same.
.in tbe drawings, Figure l is a perspective lie back of tbe typewriter carriage improved indicator mounted 2 a perspective View of tbe front oi the typewriter carriage showing .die ma er in which tbe paper engages l cater. Fig. 3 is a perspective of improved indica-tor.
c characters ci' reference refer to like parte in tlie several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the carriage of a typewriter and B the improved indicator mounted thereon, die said carriage being of any usual construction Well known in tbe a'rt it is deemedunnecessary to further describe the same.
in the embodiment illustrated the guard 1 is lieid in position by a spring controlled clip 2 mounted on the spindle 3 Which is utilized in tbe present invention to carry the U-sliaped bracket 4 which forms the support of the indicator B.
It iesirable tliaL tbe U-shaped bracket 4. slim-iid be :tixediy secured in position and to prevent donne/'ard sagging or rotation I provide oi'iset stops designed to engage with the carriage A. The bracket is further providedintermediate oi its ends and on opposite sides thereof with upwardly eX- tcnding arms 6 suitably secured thereto, on which arms the dilated rods 7 are pivotaliy mounted. Tile-se rods in the non-operative position are adapted lie along the upper edge of the bracket l by means of tbe interlockingl spring ciips 8 suitably mounted on the bracket l adjacent to the said upwardly extending arms.
The assembling of the indicator will be clearly .understood trom. the foregoing description.'
In the use of the device it -Will be clear; that as the paper 1s being fed through tbe typewriter, the 'upper portion of. the will engage with the rods Z and-tbe upper edge register With the graduations thereon. Since the lengthao different types of are standardized it is only necessary for the operator to glance at the graduations on the rods 7 ith which the upper edge oi? the paper coincides to determine the depth of the margin at the bottoni of tiie siieete From this description it will be seen that I have invented an indicator capable obeing quickly mounted on any ordinary typewriter and which will clearly indicate the margin left the bottom of the paper'j utilized on such machines.
As many changes could be in tbe above construction and many apparently Widely different embodiments oi' my in "ition, Within the scope of the claim, cf. istru'cted Without departing from the 'spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying s; eciiication and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is.
The combination with a typewriter and with the carriage thereof, of a U-sbaped bracket'having offset stops adapted to engage' therewith, graduated rods pivotally mounted on said bracket, and means for retaining the rods in an operative position comprising upstanding lateraily curved arms secured to said bracket iii-proximity to said rods, and spring clips formed upon tbe ends of said arms.
In Witness whereof l have hereunto my hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
