Description
L. 0. ALLEN.
Improvement-in Milking-Stools.
Patented June1'3,1871.
rrcE.
LEVI o. ALLEN, OF GARDINER, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MlLKlNG-STOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,803, dated June 13, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI O. ALLEN, of Gardiner, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in MilkingStools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to fully understand and to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, and in which my invention is illustrated by a perspective view.
My invention relates to that class of inilkin gstools in which a device is employed for bold ing the pail securely to the stool out of contact with the ground. The object of this invention is to provide a simple, durable, and effective pail-holder, which can be applied with facility and at a trifling cost. To this end my invention consists in a pail-holder made of a single piece of wire, bent and secured as herein specified, forinin g a spring to clamp the pail against the seat of the stool, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing is shown a niilkingstool provided with a paiLhOlder, O, constructed and applied according to my invention. This device consists of a single piece of stout wire, (iron, brass, or other suitable kind being use d,) made in the form of a SBHII' circle, more or less, and bent near the ends, as at a a, to increase the elasticity of the holder. The ends of the wire will be generally inserted in holes made in the front legs B B of the stool, as shown; but I do not limit myself to this construction, as the holes may be made in the edges of the seat. I prefer to form the front of the seat with a concave end, as shown, in order to give a more extended bearing for the pail, and prevent injury to the same when held as shown in dotted lines in the drawing. The holder can, however, be used without this provision. The stool will generally be made, as shown, with four legs, and with rounded ends to the seat.
It is obvious that my pail-holder may be readily applied to stools already made and used, and I have ascertained that the additional cost will be but two or three cents in each case.
The end of the cows tail may be easily secured and held between the pail and clamp or holder, and thus kept from being an annoyance to the inilker.
To apply the pail to the stool it is only necessary to depress the holder and insert the pail between it and the end of the seat. The elasticity of the holder will cause it to hold the pail securely.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The curved-wire pail-clamp O, formed with coils a. a, and adapted to be secured by its ends to a milking-stool, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
To the above specification of my invention I have signed my name this 2d day of J anuary, 1871, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEVI O. ALLEN.
