WAIST-CLOSURE.
I Application filed center 12, 1914." s en-a0. 866,298.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, EDWIN T. BASKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Independence, in thecounty of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waist-Closures and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable'others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to waist closures, and more particularly to a device of that character for supporting trousers, overalls oran under garment on a wearer; the principal object of the invention being to provide a garment with housings and openings adjacent thereto, whereby the belt may be properly held to the garment and tightened about the waist of a wearer.
' In accomplishing this object I have provided the improved details of structure hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective view of the waist portion of a pairof trousers equipped with Fig. II is a perspective view of the'garment, showing the belt connected and with the separate members run through openings and housings in the waist of the garment, with the belt buckled at the rear of the garment. Fig. III is a similar view showing the belt located on the outside of thewaist band of the gar ment. Fig. IV is a similar view with the belt in a different combination. Fig. V is a perspective view of a garment equipped with the modified form of belt, wherein the latter is made in one piece and secured permanently to the rear ofthe waistband. Fig. VI shows the modified form of belt in a different combination. Fig. VII is asimilar view but showing the belt secured on the inside of, the waist band. Fig. VIII is a similar view showing a different arrangement of'the belt.
Referring more in detail to the parts, and particularly to Figs. I to IV inclusive: 1 designates a pair of trousers and 2 separate belt members, each of which has an enlarged end 3, permanently attached to the trousers at opposite edges of the front opening and at inner or outer sides of the garment; each member being free for the greater portion of its length, andbeing provided with a buckle 4t and. buckle apertures?) respectively. g
Located at the waist portion and formed in the waist bandof the garment or attached to the inside or outside of the garment, are
housings 6, 7 7, through which the belt members may be run, and opening throughithe waist band, ad]acent the forward and rear edges of the housings, are slots 8, 8 through which the belt members may be extended to run the same outside of or within the gar ment, as may be desired. belt members is sufficient to enable the same to buckleat the rear of the garment when the belt is run either inside of or outside thereof.
The length of the r Specificationof Letters Patent. I Patented Oct 12,1915,
In using the belt, presuming the ends of the separate members to be attached to the garment as described, and that it is desired to have the belt run on the outside or inside of the garment, the separate belt members are extended through the forward slots 8 and, if desired, through the housings 7 or 7 and rear slot 8, and their free ends buckled to tighten the garment about the waist of the wearer; it being apparent that with this construction the garment may be held secured to the wearers waist and without gathering at the front, as by having the belt members attached to the garment and drawn toward the back there is a tendency to stretch the garment at the front, so that if there should be any surplus of material the gathering thereof will appear toward or directly at the rear of the garment.
Should the wearer desire to run the belt within the waist band he projects the free ends of "the belt members through the interior housings 6 and thence out through the, rear slots 8, so that the ends may be buckled at the back of the garment as in the first arrangement; the running of the belt within the waist band serving to conceal the major portion of the belt. It is also apparent that by providing the garment with the outer housings 7 the belt may be concealed therein while obviating any tendency of the belt to slip over the upper edge of the garment. V The construction illustrated in Figs. V to VIII inclusive differs from the preferred construction heretofore described only in that the belt is made in one piece and secured to the rear of the garment either at the inside or outside of the waist band rather than to the front, the arrangement of the housings and slots being the same and the 7 modes of operation practically identical.
Having thus described my invention, What I clalm as new therein; and deslre to secure by Letters-Patent, is
