To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ESTEILLE ALn'Il a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Toy, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a novelty which is particularly adapted to be worn as a badge, souvenir or the like.

An object of the invention is to provide a toy which may be used to provide amusement or as a souvenir of any occasion.

A further object of the invention is to provide a toy in the nature of a badge adapted to be attached to the wearing apparel of a person.

In the following description I shall outline in full that form of the invention which I have selected for illustration in the drawings accompanying and forming part of the present specification. It is to be understood, however, that the design of the toy is not limited to the specific form shown in the drawings, since the form may be readily varied without departing from the spirit of my invention. It is also understood that by the claims succeeding the specification I desire to cover the invention in whatever form it may be embodied.

In the present embodiment the toy is shown in the shape of a bell, and is designated a toll bell and is adapted to be used as a souvenir of the opening of the Panama Canal or of any of the events celebrating such opening.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of the toy of my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a part of the body of the toy. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the toy with the front plate removed. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the to Ihe toy of my invention comprises a hollow body or receptacle 2 of any desired shape or configuration, in the present instance the body being formed in the shape of a flat bell, the opening of the body occurring at the bottom. Arranged within the body 2 are a plurality of flat devices or cards containing words, phrases, pictures or other characters. In the present instance, the devices are shown as cards 3, and I shall here inafter refer to them as such. When the cards are disposed within the body they areconcealed, and the cards are so arranged that they may be withdrawn'from the body to expose them to view.

Arranged in the upper portion of the body is a cross-bar 4, to which each card is yieldingly attached by an elastic member or cord 5, the length and elasticity of the member 5 being such that it may be stretched a sufficient distance to bring the card and the delineations thereon into view. Secured to the lower portion of each card is a grip or tassel 6, by which the card may be withdrawn from the body. In the present instance, in which the body is shaped as a bell, the grips 6 are formed as clappers to complete the illusion. Each clapper 6 is preferably arranged in vertical alinement with the elastic cord, so that the card will not be distorted and will remain horizontal when withdrawn. Any suitable means, such as the pin 8, may be used for attaching the device to the coat or other wearing apparel. The cards may contain photographs or pointed expressions after thenature of the expressions heretofore used on label buttons, and by withdrawing the desired card, the desired expression can be conveyed.

I claim:

1. An article of the character described, comprising a hollow body formed to simulate a bell and having an opening in the bottom thereof, a plurality of cards arranged within said body, an elastic member connecting the top of each card with the upper portion of the body by which the cards are yieldingly suspended Within the body, and a grip formed to simulate a clapper on the lower portion of each card extending beyond the lower edge of the body,

the grip on each card being vertically alined with the elastic member by which said card is suspended.

2. An article of the character described comprising a hollow body formed to simulate a bell,'a plurality of cards normally concealed and yieldingly suspended in said body, and a grip formed to simulate a clapper attached to each card and exposed to view.

3. An article of the character, described comprising a hollow body, a cross bar fixed in said body, a plurality of cards normally concealed in said body, an elastic member connecting each card to said cross-bar, and a grip on each card projectingfrom said body.

A device of the character described, comprising a hollow body having an opening in the bottom thereof, a plurality of cards arranged Within said body, an elastic member connecting the top of each card with the upper portion of the body said elastic members being spaced apart transversely of the line of the top of the cards, and a grip on the lower portion of each card 10 projecting beyond the edge of the body, the
