' JOHN CHANI, or carver DOVER, o-Hro.
' BOTTLE-OPENING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 25, 1914;.
Application filed May 15 1913. Serial No. 767,930.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN CHANI, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Canal Dover, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented certain .new and useful Improvements in Bottle- Openingr Devices, of which the following is a speci cation, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a bottle opening device, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device that can be easily placed in engagement with a bottle or other receptacle for quickly. removing a cork, caper other closure.
A' further object of this invention is to provide a strong and durable bottle opening device embodying fulcrumed levers, one
of which serves as a puller and the other is provided with a cork screw -whereby a.
cork can be removed "from the neck of a bottle. 7
With theaboveand other objects in View the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed. a a
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure l is a side elevation-of the device partly broken away and partly in section, and Fig. 2 is a plan of the same.
A device in accordance with this invention comprises 'a' bar -1 having one end thereof providedw-itha yoke 2 adapted to embrace a bottle neck 3.- The opposite end of the baris provided with adepending "prong i adapted to engage in a bottle cap 5.
The bar 1, adjacent to the ends thereof,
V is provided with detachable uprights 6, and
Copies this patent may be obtained for pivotally connected to the upper ends of said uprights are fulcrumed levers 7 and S. The levers 7 and 8 are connected by coiled springs 9 to the uprights 6 and said springs hold the levers 7 and 8 normally in a horizontal plane or normally in parallelism with the bar 1.
The outer end of the lever 7 is provided with a rotatable corkscrew 10 whereby a cork 11 can be removed from the bottle neck 3, The outer end of the lever 8 is bent downwardly and provided with a hook, the outer end of said lever constituting a. puller, 12'for engaging under the cap 5 and tilting said cap relatively to the bottle, whereby the cap can be easily removed.
Either one of the levers 7 or 8 is operated at the inner end thereof and said operation can be easily'accomplished by gripping the bar .1 and pressing the inner end of one ofthe-levers toward said bar.
What I claim is A. bottle opening device comprising a bar formed at one end with a depending prong adapted for engagement with the bottle cap, an upright detachably mounted on said bar, a lever pivotally mounted on saidv upright, the outer end of said leverfb eing -formed with a downwardly extending portion having a hook formed on the end thereof and adapted for engagement under the edge of a bottle cap, and a spring con nected to the said upright for holdingsaid.
lever normally parallel to saidbar. In testimony whereof I afiix my, signature in the presence of two witnesses.
