LOUIS W. FABQ'UI-IAR, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
UNION GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 13, 1914.
Application filed October 25, 1912. Serial No. 727,764.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS IV. FARQUHAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Union Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garments and more particularly to union garments.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a garment having an adjustable crotch piece so arranged that it may be adjusted to fit and conform with the body and whereby it will overlap the adjoining parts without seams and without uncomfortable folds.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a front view. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the flap disconnected.
In the specific embodiment of the invention as illustrated herein the garment consists of a shirt or body portion 1 connected by means of a waist band 2 to the drawers or the leg portion 3 which consists of the separate legs 4: unconnected and cut away at the crotch as shown at 5. Stitched to the waist band at the rear of the garment is a crotch closing flap 6 preferably narrowed as shown at 7 intermediate its length and having broad buttock and abdominal portions 8 and 9 as indicated. The portion 8 may, if desired, be provided with a plurality of button holes 10 adapted to receive buttons 11 carried on the legs at while the abdominal portion of the flap is provided with a plurality of button holes 12 adapted to be engaged by buttons 13 carried on the waist band. The button holes 12 are arranged in separate series on opposite sides of longitudinal slit la and are adapted to adjust the flap to different figures by engagement with the buttons 13 on the waist band so that no unnecessary or uncomfortable folds are presented.
The garment, if desired, may be constructed of any suitable material but if constructed of knitted fabric it is preferable that the wales of the goods run longitudinally of the body and legs and also of the flap while the waist band preferably has its wales running at right angles thereto.
It will be, of course, understood that the crotch closing flap may have parallel side edges instead of being reduced intermediate its length, also that button and button hole connections may be made with the lower portion of the abdominal portion 9 and the front portion of the leg in a similar manner to the button holes 10 and the buttons 11, these to be an addition to the button holes 12 and buttons 13.
What is claimed is 2- A union garment comprising a body portion, separated leg members, a waist band connecting the body portion to the leg members, a flap having a longitudinal slit connected to the waist band to the rear of the garment, said flap having its longitudinal edges out to form relatively wide buttock and abdominal portions and a relatively narrow intermediate portion, button holes formed on the free end of the flap, buttons carried by the front portion of the waist band for entering said button holes and adapted to adjust the flap, buttons carried by the leg portions and button holes in the buttock portion of the flap for receiving said last named buttons.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS W. FARQUHAR.
