Description

PATENTED OCT. 10, 1905.
N. W. ANDERSON.
MATERNITY DRAWERS.
APPLICATION FILED 1101213904 Witnesses UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 10, 1905.
Application filed November 21, 1904. Serial No. 238,725.
To all whont it 'II'tCI/Z/ concern:
Be it known that I, NINA VVARREN ANDER- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Macon, in the county of Bibb and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Maternity-Drawers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it-appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in maternity garments; and the object of the invention is to produce articles of apparel of this character which may be conveniently applied to and removed from the body of the wearer and so constructed that they may be adjusted to different-sized bodies.
My invention consists, further, in various details and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and which Figure 1 is aperspective view of the invention, showing the legs of the drawers straightened out and extending in opposite directions. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the puckering-string for adjusting the band to the body of the wearer. Fig. 3 is a top plan view, and Fig. 41. is a perspective view looking at the lower portions of the drawers.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the drawers, which are made from a single piece of cloth, the longitudinal edges of which are stitched together, as at B, leaving an opening G, and D designates a waistband formed by turning the end of the cloth and stitching same. A draw-string H is passed through between the folds of said band, thus affording means whereby the band may be adjusted to different-sized bodies. The meeting ends of the cloth of which the drawers are made may be provided with buttons and buttonholes, as shown, whereby the ends may be fastened together, thereby making a garment which will be perfectly comfortable and easily put on or taken off.
While I have shown and described a particular form of garment embodying my invention, it will be understood that I may vary the detailed construction of the drawers, if desired, without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, maternity-drawers made of a single piece of fabric which is folded upon itself along its longitudinal center, to form the inclosures for the legs, the central portion of the fabric having a body-aperture, the marginal edge of which is turned upon itself to form a band, a draw-string between the folds of said hand, one edge of said fabric being slitted into said body-aperture, and provided with fastening means along its opposite edges, the outer portions, of the longitudinal edges of the fabric, being inclined and stitched together, portions of the longitudinal edges of the fabric being left unstitched forming an enlarged opening of greater diameter than said body-opening opposite thereto, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
